Pros: Nice flavor, chews well, smaller pieces and nice packaging.
Cons: Flavor seems to dissipate kind of quicker than others, but overall it isn't too bad.
The Bottom Line: A good flavored, sugar-free gum...but uses aspartame...my daughter will not be allowed to chew it, as I don't let her have the aspartame items.
Magick1's Full Review: Stride Sweet Berry Gum, (12-14 Stick Packs)
I ran to a local convenience store the other day for lunch (they have a SUBWAY store inside). As I was leaving, I realized that I had run out of gum at work and decided that I needed to grab some quickly and did so as I left the store. I picked up a box of the Sweet Berry Stride gum. The color of the gum package caught my attention, being a deep red and pink box with a big white S on it. I had never had this gum before, but it was handy and the sweet berry flavor sounded intriguing.
The Product
I was rather surprised when I opened the package. The size of the pieces of gum reminded me of a small stick of Trident that I used to chew eons ago! The package opened up kind of weird from what I was used to…being a double folded package with a cover that closes over the top. When you open the cellophane wrapper a really nice, sweet smell erupted from the package. It was a nice berry smell that enticed you to grab a piece and start chewing the gum. This gum almost reminded me of a bag of cotton candy when you open up the package. Yummy, it smelled great!
You get a huge burst of wonderfully strong berry flavor when you pop it in your mouth. Your taste buds are totally covered in flavor and the gum is nice and soft to chew. I did find that the flavor did not last extremely long, but that is ok for me, as I sometimes don’t like to chew it for a really long time anyway. But, if you are a person that likes to chew gum for a very long time, this might not be for you, as it will dissipate pretty quickly.
The gum tended to start getting harder to chew after a while as well. Some gum experiences this and others stay softer, even when the flavor has faded. But, in my experience, when the flavor really dropped off the gum seemed to get harder to chew too.
Overall Impressions
The gum was decent for shorter chewing sessions. But, the flavor did not stay around too long. The package is kind of fun with miscellaneous sayings and things to do on the inside flaps. And you can chew “one layer” of the gum and then rip it off and just have the next layer available with a closing tab to keep it closed. That was a nice feature to have so that the gum doesn’t fly out of the package in your pocket or purse.
The gum is a sugar free gum and uses aspartame for the flavoring. It has < 5 calories per piece of gum which they say is 30% fewer calories than sugared gum.
This is distributed by Cadbury Adams USA LLC and if you want more information, you can find it on their website http://www.stridegum.com/. There are many flavors available so you can rotate through. After trying this gum from the convenience store, I did notice that my local warehouse store carries the larger packs and I have picked up a couple of these since then and I keep them at my desk for a quick refreshing between meals when I cannot brush my teeth. I also like to chew it during the day because the office air is so dry and I find that my throat gets ticklish and I find myself kind of coughing more often at work. By chewing some gum, I find that I don’t cough as much due to chewing the gum, so I always keep some at hand!
If you are looking for a new piece of gum to try, this might one to check out. It gives you a good refreshing feeling, a good burst of flavor and it does last a decent amount of time. You might find a new flavor and a new gum that you enjoy!
