With the Epson Stylus C80 Inkjet Printer , Epson offers an economical choice in a desktop color printer. It is a versatile personal printer that fulfills my basic printing needs.
Installation. Confession time- I tried to install this printer myself. I was able physically set it up and attach it to my computer. But when I ran the CD, I kept ran in to frustration and was not able to figure out how to get this thing operating. This is not unusual for me. But,with the help of my more technically minded neighbor, the new printer was up and running.
Speed. The Epson Stylus C80 Is the fastest printer I have used. It is much faster than my Canon BJC-250 . And speed is the number one reason that I chose this printer. This printer prints 6.1 pages per minute when printing text. When printing photographs the output is 5.6 pages per minute.
Print Quality. One of the main things for which I use the C80 is to print charts and other information on various stocks. At first the print quality was rather disappointing. But after much tweeking, I now get satisfactory results. I was able, with some assistance, set up the printer to the proper resolution and to the paper I'm using. It meets my needs after these adjustments.
Photo Quality. Here again some adjustments were needed. The quality of my photos improved when I selected the 'quality' setting instead of the 'speed' setting. Before making this adjustment, The photos were dull and disappointing. I do not use this feature very much, but when I do the photos are satisfactory. If you are looking for high quality pictures, you may find the results lacking.
Price A quick search at Dealtime.com results in prices on this printer that range from $139.99 t0 $179 and up. I got mine at the local bricks and mortar Office Depot . Maybe I shoulda' checked online first, huh?
The Cartridges. The Stylus C80 uses four Epson T032120 Inkjet Cartridges. The black cartridge is about $31.99. The yellow, cyan, and magenta run about $11.99. That's kind of expensive, isn't it? Still they are long lasting and you only need replace each individual cartridge as he or she runs dry.
Size, Durability, Dependability. The Stylus C80 fits nicely on my desk along side my computer. According to the specification sheet, it measures 17.8'" wide, 7.9" in height, and is 12.5 inches in depth. The printer is sturdily constructed. The paper holding trays are made with a heavier plastic than other printers I've seen. I have not had any problems with paper jamming with my printer. I haven't used it to print envelopes just just mostly for printing off of the internet.
Bottom Line (almost). It would be difficult for me to simply recommend or not recommend this printer. I believe that whether or not you will be satisfied with the performance of the Epson Stylus C80 depends upon your expectations and requirements. If those are set high in your case, I doubt if you will be happy with the results this printer gives.
On the one hand... on the other hand. I can say I'm satisfied with my experience. But, I was not looking for a superior printer. I just wanted something that was fast, would print reasonable color photos on occasion, and wasn't too expensive. This printer has fulfilled those requirements.
I'm happy with this printer. I'm just not jumping up and down happy !
