Re: Switch to USB Connection (Reply to this comment)
by golddigger
My C80 is connected by USB port and the self-cleaning mechanism is selected manually. I would appreciate any info on how to get the printer to bypass the ink monitor so I can print with black ink. The printing error message reads that the printer will not function if any one color cartridge is empty. Thank you.

Epson C80 hidden expenses (Reply to this comment)
by golddigger
My recent purchase of the Epson C80 was based on my overall satisfaction with an earlier StyleWriter. While I have no complaints about the quality of the printing, the ink consumption is not only gluttonous but once any one vial of color ink is empty, the printer will not print in black. The whole point of buying a printer with separate cartridges was to avoid that obstacle.

Switch to USB Connection (Reply to this comment)

I have noticed the "prime-on-powerup" problem on some older ESPSONs as well. How do you make your connection from the printer to PC? If you are using USB connection in stead of Paralell, the auto-cleaning will not happen--works on my 740.
