Pros: Inexpensive, smells terrific, keeps head lice away
A few years ago, when my oldest was in teeball, she shared a few more things with her teammates than just some summer fun. I noticed her scratching her head one day and was awestruck to find that she had head lice! It made perfect sense where it came from, all the kids shared batting helmets.
During my desperate attempt to rid our lives of these embarrassing pests, I consulted my trusty search engine for information on a treatment for head lice. I found many different methods and cures. Most recommended using a hair treatment containing pesticides! How scary is that? Some said to use vinegar, others advised mayonnaise or olive oil. These products were helpful, but didn't get rid of the lice or nits, (the eggs).
Finally, I came across an article that said to use any type of hair product that contained coconut oil. Evidently lice are repelled by this. So, immediately, I rushed to the store in search of anything that contained it!
I was quite surprised to find that only a few were made with coconut oil. The one I found that had it listed closest to the main ingredient was Suave Tropical Coconut.
Not only did this shampoo and conditioner get rid of the head lice, of course we had to pick out EVERY nit, but the coconut smell is very strong and I felt confident if they were truly repelled by this, Suave was our best chance!
Believe it or not, my children have never had to experience head lice again! Thank goodness!
Since this awful experience, I have come across many articles that suggest using coconut oil. Our school now sends out information to parents about it.
I realize that head lice isn't a pleasant subject, but like many things, it's just part of life! If there's one thing I can recommend to avoid it, it would be this shampoo and conditioner! Because of the scent, it's also a great way to tell if your children "really" washed their hair!
And oh, this product also works well making your hair clean and soft and manageable.
