Although I've been very susceptible to bronchitis, I never had a real problem with allergies or sinus. Well, that is until I started teaching high school. Everyday I report to work at an older school built at the turn of the last century and find myself in contact with 150 ninth graders a day. Needless to say, coming in contact with that many kids is enough to make anyone sick - not to mention that the building really isn't cleaned as it should be so mold and germs are a real problem.
Needless to say, it didn't take long for me to catch a head cold within the first few weeks of school during my first year teaching. I had horrible sinus headaches - bordering the pain of a migraine (which I also suffer from). I had a slight fever, many aches, and a runny but badly stuffed up nose. I knew I had to buy something fast just so I could make it through the day.
One day after school, I went to my local Wal-Mart and purchased some non-drowsy Sudafed for about $8.00. I was certainly unhappy by the price; however, I knew that Sudafed is a respected brand and was confident that this was the product I needed to alleviate my symptoms. I even read on the box that multi-symptom Sudafed is supposed to relieve the following symptoms : nasal congestion, various aches and pains, headache, sore throat, and fever -- all in a "non-drowsy" formula.
Don't you believe it! Sure, my temperature did return to normal. However, I kept all the same aches and pains, headache, and congestion. In fact, I had to take some Advil just to get some relief. The worst part about it was that this "non-drowsy" formula made me so sleepy that I had to actually take a nap during my conference period.
So, in short, save your $8, take some Advil, and let the cold run its course before you torture yourself with this stuff.
