I just recently bought the movie Sueno. I bought it because I really like John Leguizamo's films. I have a lot of them. He is a really good actor. I saw the preview and it looked really good. I like the fact that there is a lot of music involved and this kind of role I have not seen John Leguizamo play yet, and I think he did a really nice job in this role because he looked the part. He looked really young in this movie. And the clothes her wore fit him.
Sueno is about a man. Antonio, who lives in a Mexican town. He begins by describing how music was part of his life."I was lucky I came from the most beautiful place on earth where music was everywhere". It shows his mother singing to him as a little baby. His mother sings to him and gets him in to music really young. When she dies he moves to the United States to live his dream. When he gets to America, it is a different story. He works at a Taco Stand where he meets this girl who he thinks is beautiful. This girl is played by Ana Claudia Talacon. Her character is very shy, and she don't want to get into any serious relationships. So now Antonio has two goals- To be a famous musician, and to get the girl of his dreams.
Then he meets his new neighbor who is played by Elizabeth Pena. She is a divorced mother who recently got seperated. She and Antonio have a lot in common- music. So They talk, and she gives him a lot of her old albums. They become good friends, and He relizes she is a very good singer, but she thinks she is way too old to be a part of his group. She really has a bad self image the whole movie. Like she don't deserve to have a good future because she is not as skinny has she used to be.
The box quotes "His whole life Antonio has dreamed of one thing-to become a famous musician. Leaving his Mexican border town behind, he hops a bus to Los Angeles, where his life is transformed when he falls for Nina, a beautiful aspiring doctor. As his attraction to Nina grows, so does his admiration for his neighbor Mirabella, a divorced mother of two and gifted former singer. At Antonio's passionate urging, Mirabella joins his band as they prepare for a talent contest that could change all their lives forever in this magical look at the limiteless power of love, hope, and dreams."
Sueno is a really good movie but has some points to it that don't make sense. John Leguizamo is obviously not a mexican, he is a columibian actor, and sometimes you can see where he is trying too hard to fake that mexican accent. They should have had a Mexican actor for this lead.
Another thing it made it look so easy to travel from Mexico to the United States, Just hop a bus, no green card, no nothing. I think it made that look way to easy to do. But it is a movie.
Sueno is a 108 minute color film is mostly in English, but they threw in some Spanish. Like some of the music songs are in Spanish, and they have some parts where they speak Spanish phrases, some Spanglish. This movie also is in Spanish, Thai, French and Portuguese. There are also subtitles in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and even Japanese.
So In conclusion I really like this movie. The music is good, the suspense of does he really make it in his band? and Does he get the girl? is not all that great but it is a cute little movie. I would recommend this movie be a good date movie, more of a girly movie, but it is still good...
