Naked Pierced and Tattooed Chicks Giving Life Lessons? Count Me In!

Rated a Very Helpful Review

Pros:Plenty of good-looking young women and a fun atmosphere

Cons:Personal tastes might interfere with some viewer's appreciation

The Bottom Line: For the viewer familiar and ok with the type of content offered by SuicideGirls.com, this would be an entertaining and probably stimulating view.

Plot Details: This opinion reveals no details about the movie's plot.

With their first two DVD releases, Suicide Girls (a website devoted to providing pin-up style centerfolds of female models who wouldn't necessarily be featured in more mainstream media outlets) more or less just provided video centerfolds of various models.  The First Tour also documented a burlesque tour sponsored by, and featuring models from, the website while Italian Villa chronicled a photo shoot taking place in Italy.  Suicide Girls: Guide To Living goes for a more fun approach, having models from the website provide various good-natured and humorous step-by-step "how to" lessons in subjects ranging from preparing absinthe, to tying a tie, to killing vampires and more.  In many ways, the overall mood of this DVD is more light-hearted and amusing than the previous releases, but as with the previous two releases, if you're entering the DVD primarily to see nude tattooed and pierced young women, you won't be disappointed.

With the thirteen "how-to" segments being the main body of the program, Guide To Living also explains the history of the website and why it came into fruition, goes through the process of signing up to the site as a model, and gives several of the women a chance to speak their mind about the artwork that adorns their bodies.  These various segments are introduced by a group of models who seem to be having a good time,  making this program more fun and less structured than the previous DVDs.

Of course, as would be expected with a DVD like this, the main focus of the program is on naked female bodies, and Guide to Living doesn't disappoint.  During the various lessons, the camera moves up, down and around nude bodies, providing lingering views of areas that commercial photography usually attempts to avoid.  The bodies on display are almost universally easy on the eyes, even if the body art and piercings may not be to everyone's taste.  Personally, I thought the women chosen to be included on this DVD were generally very attractive; while some of the tattoos and piercings are somewhat outrageous, they usually seem to be fairly tasteful and not completely overdone to the point of overkill.  I've always found tattoos and piercings on women to be attractive if done in the right way, and, for the most part, the tattoos these women have are quite beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.  Though most of the women here are on the thin side, various body types and looks are represented, so that the viewer is privy to a nice selection of female nudes.

Handling the direction of the disc is once again Mike Marshall, who gives the program an artistic sheen that one might not expect considering the nature of the disc.  Clearly, Marshall is attempting to make this more of just a T&A show, manuevering his camera to provide interesting angles while always managing to stay focused on "the good bits."  Marshall also edits the program well, keeping the how-to segments moving along and never allowing Guide To Living to become stale or stagnant.  It seems as though Marshall was aware that this DVD was supposed to be more irreverent and less structured than the previous ones, and his editing choices represent that feel quite well.  Some awkward or imperfect moments that probably would have been cut out of most programs are left in by Marshall to give Guide to Living a more real, improved kind of feel, which again fits in with what the program was going for.

Music once again factors in heavily on Guide To Living, with a wide variety of musical styles being represented on the soundtrack.  The tunes here seem to be generally more chilled-out than some of those featured previously, although there are a couple rowdy and raucous rock tunes.  By frequently using more relaxed music, though, the entire DVD becomes a pleasant view; while there are a couple more aggressive how-to segments with music that represents that, the general mood of this DVD is more relaxed and easy to digest.  Overall, I thought the music on the DVD was well chosen, providing a little something for everyone whether they're into hip-hop, punk rock, or electro.

As is probably apparent, this DVD (which is probably actually more geared towards a female audience) would not be appropriate for some viewers, as is does contain a copious amount of full-frontal female nudity.  While this is done tastefully in comparison to many skin features, the content still would dissuade some viewers.  As a matter of personal opinion, I can safely say that some viewers probably wouldn't like the women on display here since they are given free reign to let their beliefs and attitudes run wild in various segments.  The fact that the women also have prevalent tattoos and bodily piercings also probably wouldn't appeal to those viewers more accustomed to the "traditional" standards of female beauty.  For those with more specialized tastes, however, Guide to Living would be ideal, featuring plenty of attractive young women and a fun atmosphere.
