PAST EXPENSIVE TOASTER DISAPPOINTMENTS

I think my body exudes some kind of magnetic field, because machines, electronic devices, etc, tend to misbehave around me. Or at least behave in a way that is different from how they behave around others. And that malfeasance seems magnified around toasters.
I got a moderately priced (about $30) toaster only to have it stop toasting (the wires that get red when you depress the lever stopped getting red) after about a month. I then thought I was being punished for trying to be frugal and decided I had to bite the bullet and buy a top of the line “good” brand and spent about $50. The same thing happened.
So the last time I bought a toaster, I bought the cheapest one I could find: the Sunbeam 2-slice toaster depicted above. It was under $15 at Target. I didn’t expect it to last long because of my other experiences, but I thought I’d at least spend less per toaster at that price.
WHAT THE SUNBEAM WAS LIKE
This toaster has a white plastic “case” with a standard lever to cause the toast to descend on what sounds like a creaky spring into the toasting machine. Below the lever is a “darkness dial” to adjust the toasting darkness. It also has what I call the “panic button” in case you decide you’ve dialed too dark a toaster setting and want the toast to pop up immediately. That’s it. No other buttons, switches, etc.
This arrangment was fine for my needs since all I use it for is to toast regular-sized bread or an occassional poptart for my husband. The 2 slots are wide enough for bagels or hamburger buns, but I have never used the toaster for those.
Granted, this toaster is white, which does not match my kitchen, but I'm okay with that. It looks flimsy, but even though it is plastic is has not chipped or broken.
It has a removable "crumb tray" which allow you to dump the crumbs in the sink to clean the toaster. Other than that, all i've done is wipe the outside surface.
GOOD PLAIN TOAST
I have had my Sunbeam for about a year and a half now and it continues to toast my toast (and my hubby’s poptarts) without problems. I was surprised to see the low ratings on Epinions for this product. I don’t know if my aura that normally makes machines break has had some kind of beneficial effect on this toaster that normally does not operate well for others, but it has worked by consistently toasting bread as ordered by the darkness dial for more than a year without a bad incident.
