jj-denver's Full Review: Sunbeam 5891 Bread Machine
The Sunbeam 5891 has a weak motor that kneads the bread far less effectively than two other breadmakers I have used. I had a Sears Kenmore private labeled breadmaker that was very similar to the present Breadman TR2500 for 4 years, making 1-2 loaves a week, and it worked fine. The pan died (wore out where the paddle rotates) and the new pan was to cost almost $50 (from Salton/Breadman). The price annoyed me a tad, so I decided to buy a new breadmaker instead. First I tried the Sunbeam 5891 because it was hard to overlook that it cost half as much as the Breadman version of my old Kenmore breadmaker, and nearly the same as a new pan from Salton/Breadman. I made one loaf and found its kneading motor whirled much slower than the Kenmore, bogged down and barely turned when the dough started to get thick, and kneaded for half as long as the Kenmore did (10 minutes rather than 20), likely because they wanted to avoid hurting the weak motor. Using the same recipe I'd used for 4 years, the Sunbeam's bread was coarser and was sunken in the middle. Granted there are variances in every loaf, but the weak kneading told me what I suspected to be the cause. I returned it and got a Breadman TR2500. The new Breadman motor was even stronger than the old Kenmore. It kneaded even longer and the paddle whirled faster than my old Kenmore, and it goes around no matter how much dough is in there or how thick it is. Oh boy, the Breadman's bread was just like I had made in the old Kenmore. I am quite pleased with the Breadman, but I do not want to be an advertiser for them. They are pricey on their replacement pans. I suppose they may make bad models too, and maybe Sunbeam has other models that work better. And other mfrs may have fine models as well. Just be aware, when you go cheap, you loose something, like a strong motor to knead with.
