Pros: Jonah Hill!
Cons: Over the top vulgarities...entirely too lengthy...
Super bad was a super disappointment. While I am a fan of Jonah Hill and the comedies that come out from the general group of actors associated with this film, I felt it was one of the worst films I've seen in a while.
Within the first five minutes I felt like an old geezer. I am in no way conservative, and in no way down with censorship, but this was a little much. But, I can't believe how much high school party flicks have changed in the past couple of years. Everyone loves a good Keg party, this is agreed, but Jonah Hill's character was out of control with his language. Maybe it's the fact that I'm a female but listening to one talk about the male anatomy like this was ridiculous. Then when he goes into a rant about how bangable certain girls are I became a little annoyed. It would have been fine if it would have been a short scene and then dropped, but it was something that was kept up in the film.
The premise behind the movie is that 2 best friends, Evan and Seth, are getting ready to graduate high school. The pair who have been inseparable since they were 8 are now going to different colleges. Both are trying to get laid. Seth (played by Jonah Hill) is trying to hook up with a girl named Jules and tries to impress her by offering to buy booze for a party she's having while her parents are away.
Evan (played by Michael Cera) likes a girl named Becca, and basically offers to do the same.
The pair plan to use their geeky part time friend Fogell/Mc Lovin's newely aquired Fake ID....
Seth becomes irate when he learns that Fogell's ID says that he's 25 and his name reads "McLovin". He decides first to steal the alcohol needed for the party and when that doesn't work they trio decide to give McLovin's ID a try.
Fogell goes into the liquor store and almost succeeds at getting the list of items for the party but as he is paying the store gets robbed and he gets knocked out with one swift blow to the head by the robber.
Seth and Evan have no idea what's going on as they were distracted by a young girl walking her dog. The police are called to the scene of the crime and while Seth and Evan think Fogell's getting arrested for having a fake ID, he's really making friends with the 2 patrolmen. Actually, the officers are offering to take McLovin to the party but instead get him drunk, show him how to fire a gun, and end up basically blowing up their own patrol car.
The rest of the night has its "crazy" moments but overall nothing worth more than a few small chuckles. The ending is one of those that you think "Wow, I waited for that?" If you're so bored that you are counting the squares on the ceiling it's worth a watch. Other than that I'd stay clear of Superbad. Unless of course you are 17-22 hormonal boy with a bud...this won't be amusing.
