| amba2314's Full Review: Superyard Xt Play Gate by North States Industries |
I couldnt bring myself to to subject my daughter to a tiny "play yard" for a safe play area at home. Whatever happened to the big square ones they had? Couldnt they find a way to make bigger safe playpens? Anyway, I instantly knew I was going to get this when I saw it in a catalog and then I saw that it was at toys r us and I had a coupon!! So I bought it got it home and opened it up!!
Here comes my biggest complaint... When I opened it the first time, two little pieces of the plastic around the joints chipped off making some sharp areas... I just did my best to cover these and make them safe, because I had been dealing with toys r us about a highchair return for almost 3 months... UGH!
The more I thought about it though I decided to skip toys r us and call the manufacturer... So I got the paper that came with it and found the very readily displayed phone number for customer service and called. My call was almost immediatley answered by a real person and I got no further than to tell her the product I had purchased and that the pieces chipped off when she asked me for my full name and mailing address, and promptly informed me that an extension was being sent to replace the chipped panels... NO QUESTIoNS ASKED NO CHARGE NOTHING! AND I got them in like two days!!!
Since the chips were no longer a problem since I ended up melting the sharp edge smooth with a lighter, I now had a REALLY big playpen. Even when I just had the original size I would get in with my daughter and play and organize her toys around the inside, she loves playing in it! I also attached little toys to the holes of the panels with link a doos and such, and velcro toys too! I tied her baby crib piano to it too and she would pull up on it to play with it.
Now that she is a year old and can push it all around I have undone it, which is NOT recommended by the manufacturer, and secured it in a zig zag line around my living room area so she cant get out and it dosent moove, and she has an even bigger area to play and she can get on the couch or use the coffetable to put her toys on.
It is pretty high I think another mom said 26 inches and even when my daughter stands on her toys she cant even think of getting out. If it gets dirty or something you can hose it off and let it air dry and you can use this outside so easily.
I have even thought about taking it to the beach if it wasnt so cumbersome to carry when folded. And its a little big to take with you on a trip where your car is packed pretty full, I borrow my mom's playyard when we travel... It is a little loud when you close it up at night to take your living room back... but I guess my baby is a sound sleeper!!
I really love this thing and I am so glad that I bought it, The manufacturer is awesome as well. Totally unexpected happiness all around!!
UPDATE ::: Ok, so when I wrote this review it was really late (early?) and I didn't really have the patience for totally perfect punctuation, and I did not know the exact dimensions of the Superyard... But now, to make up for that I have more to add to this review.
Ok, first, the size of the enclosure with the original superyard (which is 6 panels) is 18.5 square feet. With the extension (2 extra panels) the size is 34.4 square feet!! Nice and BIG!
It comes fully assembled in the box when you buy it, just be sure to read the directions first on which way to open it so you don't do it backwards.
I personally believe that there is no way for a baby/kid to undo these panels. It has a cylinder and pin locking mechanism that you have to pull up on one panel while pressing down on the other and slide it open.
Ok now for the part about "undoing" the circular enclosure... The information sheet says the enclosure does not have the strength to resist pressure if in a "Straight" position, and to make sure each panel is at an angle to the adjoining panel. My modification still has every panel at an angle but the two ends are at 90 degrees and one side the panel is behind my sofa against the wall and the other is behind a BIG leather chair and a heavy box of books is securing it from moving. This is just my personal arrangement, my daughter loves all the room and she dosen't want to get out all the time.
Each panel is 25 inches high and 32 inches wide.
