| fiddledebi's Full Review: Superyard Xt Play Gate by North States Industries |
The Superyard XT is one of the best pieces of baby equipment we found! I always thought playpens made babies look so pathetic, with the high walls and having to look through a screen at everything. The worst is that to play with anyone else, you have to take the baby out. The Superyard XT solves all those problems, and more.
This is a series of interlocking gates that you can shape in a kind of hexagon. We have a friend who bought two sets and, since they fit together, basically fenced in their living room -- a great idea. We just have one set because our living room is pretty small. The gates are white and plastic, a thick sturdy kind, with wider feet that keep it sturdy.
The Superyard encloses an area, depending on how you shape it, about 5.5 feet long and a few feet wide. It's big enough for a lot of toys, including some that require a child to stand up My daughter is 10 months old and 26 inches tall, and likes to stand all the time. At almost 18 pounds, she uses the sides of the gate to pull herself up and they're plenty sturdy for that. It's long enough for her to have room to crawl around, and the shape of it will be great when she's ready to "cruise" around inside it, holding on to the sides.
The nicest thing about the Superyard XT, though, is that we can open it up at one of the hinges and sit in there to play with her. That way, the Superyard is not just someplace we leave her alone all the time; she gets to play WITH us in there when we can, and it's a nice fun place to play when we need to put her down somewhere safe and alone for a few minutes. We put a foam mat underneath it since we have hardwood floors, but our friends have it put together on top of their carpeting and it sits up just fine.
Another little bonus -- the gates are latticed, so you can hang toys from the sides for your child to "discover." It's fun to watch her find something new!
We love the Superyard XT! It's definitely worth buying once your child starts crawling.
