smh32775's Full Review: Surfacing by Sarah McLachlan
Out of all Sarah McLachlan's albums, Surfacing has been my long time favorite.I came across this album after a friend took me to see Sarah as a birthday present. I was not that familiar with her music before then, but I was entralled at her abilities as a singer and a musician. Her sultry, soulful voice and riveting music will move you. Surfacing is they type of album you love to listen to after a long and/or stressful day. You can sit back, relax and unwind. I often light candles and take a bubble bath while relaxing to the almost hypnotic rhythms of Surfacing's songs.
The songs on Surfacing cover the usual topics of love and life's meaning but Sarah's songs are deeper and can touch a cord. I can relate to something in almost each of these songs:
Building a Mystery
I Love You *my favorite*
Sweet Surrender
Adia
Do What You Have To Do
Witness
Angel
Black & White
Full of Grace
Last Dance
While listening to Surfacing, Sarah's voice denotes a mental picture of one almost "making love" to the microphone. Her voice has that much depth and feeling. Her voice has incredible power and strength.
Surfacing is an album for those who are tired of trendy boy and girl bands. This album features real music with feelings and true to life meanings.
