Opinion Summary
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Stars ~ Suzuki Violin School Volume 1
by jenniferkateab | Mar 12 '08
Pros: Music_education can begin at a very young age ~ this book is the perfect start!
Cons: Parents must get involved--you can't just pick-up and drop-off with Suzuki method.

I may just take you up on that offer - I'm sure I'll need some advice as we start on this new journey. Sorry I'm so far behind on responding & rating newer reviews - we've been on vacation.

Dear Jamie,

I am so gratified that my review has helped you with this important decision!! I recommend looking for a teacher at the Suzuki Association of the Americas website (suzukiassociation.org) and also reading "To learn with Love" by Suzuki (or any of his books).

You are embarking on a great adventure, such a special one that you and your daughter will treasure! Best wishes to your family... please email me if you have any questions along the way.

Musically yours,

Jennifer

Ok, I think you get it right? I have wondered for months now what method of violin I should start my daughter in. I had previously heard of the Suzuki method but knew nothing about it. You have helped SO much with this review!!
My husband actually bought a violin for our daughter's 5TH birthday - last year. It is in the closet just waiting on me to take that leap and find a teacher!
I was trained in Classical Piano but know zero about violin or where to start - until now!
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!! You've helped to point me in the right direction!!
Excellent review :)

Dear Echo,

Your daughter is so lucky to be starting out this early! Are you teaching her yourself? I recommend also getting the CDs and playing them in the car...

Thanks so much for your comment! I love hearing from other string players.

Take care,

Jennifer

I love Suzuki.... (Reply to this comment)

I started out with book 1 for the Viola and when we can, I attempt to still play from book 2 for my 3 year old to hopefully inspire her with her 1/10 size too! It hasn't gone very far yet, but everyone says Suzuki is the best method for beginners- thanks for sharing!!

Beth,

It really makes me SMILE to hear that I've inspired you :) Whenever I review anything on the subject of violin playing, I hope my enthusiasm will be contagious!

I do believe that this product belongs in the Musical Instrument category because I have seen other instrument "method" books here also. I'll double check, though...

thanks so much for your comments! :~)

Shlamozzel:
You should have heard our first sounds! They were "DREKKFUL" too, LOL.

I must say, the old addage is true. Practice makes perfect. Really, at 40 years young, it's amazing to me that I am learning a new instrument. I think it keeps my brain firing neurons.

Take Care!! Jennifer

and what a fascinating subject! How wonderful that you and your daughter are doing this together. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your reviews, especially if they're this inspiring (and I'm sure they will be!).

Beth

...I just noticed that this appears to be showing up in the musical instruments category, instead of books. Is that a correct listing? I know our database is glitchy...

Giwald... (Reply to this comment)

If ever I should attempt the violin I think what came out would best be described as "DREK".

As much as I had wanted to play the instrument when I was a child I know I can not attempt it now... "Nerve damage".

C'est la vie!

Sweet review from the land of milk and honey!

Cheers,

Schlamozzel
