| MumMumMum's Full Review: Swim Ways Easy Spring Lounge |
I have become somewhat obsessed with enjoying myself this summer after the very long stressful few years weve recently come through. One of the ways Ive been doing that is by enjoying the outdoors as much as possible, biking, walking, and relaxing in and out of the pool. So one of the next shopping missions was to find a pool lounge that would be comfortable for an adult in the pool. I had seen the advertisements on television for the Swimways Easy Spring Lounge and thought that it might be nice. I was in the store trying to choose from a myriad of pool loungers and floats and was convinced to purchase the Swimways Easy Spring Lounge by another customer who had been searching the stores for this sold out item. The sales clerk found five more in the back that had just arrived and we both went home happy with our purchases.
What is the Swimways Easy Spring Lounge?
Ill let the manufacturer explain this one (from the Swimways website):
The most comfortable lounge ever! Convenient, portable, and versatile. The Easy Spring Lounge offers everything you look for in a lounge! One quick fling and the Easy Spring Float opens for amazing lounging comfort!
-36" x 72" lounge
-3' diameter inflated tubing surrounds lounge
-Inflatable comfort pillow
-Durable fade-resistant construction
-Collapses for easy storage and portability
-Nylon mesh carry bag with sturdy handle, wet/dry pocket and key clip tab
-1 year limited warranty
Enfolded in the nylon mesh bag is a circular object. Remove it from the bag, give it a quick flip of the wrist and it pops open into lounger! Is that cool or what? Its sort of oblongish-oval in shape (yeah, I know thats not a real word), with an inflatable pillow at the head of the lounge and an inflatable tube running around the entire edge of the mesh lounge. There are two air chambers with safety valves, one for the pillow and one for the tube running along the edge of the lounge. Just blow up the flotation chambers and youre ready to float. The box states not to use high pressure air and to only inflate by mouth. I presume using an ancient bike pump circa 1880 would be all right since it certainly couldnt be considered high pressure and it doesnt inflate as fast as by mouth.
When youre done lounging you can fold it up, put it in its mesh carry bag and store it. This means that if youre at the beach youve got a nice compact lounger, not a big bulky takes-an-hour-to-inflate item. And it is relatively easy to fold up again, with the complete instructions on the box again:
To fold and store your spring float:
Open both safety valves on your spring float. Pinch the bottom of each safety valve and release the air from the flotation chambers. With spring float bent and thumbs positioned away from your body, grab the edges along the seams. Turn hands inward to bring the colllapsing edges together. Edges will naturally turn inward and overlap, creating a circle between your hands and body. Continue to overlap until both hands are together and your spring float naturally comes together into a circle.
It really is that easy! The nylon mesh is fade resistant, and mine came in a nice dark purple, but I also saw a lime green and a bright blue Swimways Easy Spring Lounge as well. The only care that this lounge requires is to rinse it to remove salt and chlorine, store it out of direct sunlight, and make sure you deflate the pillow and outer ring before attempting to store it. And remember this is not a life saving device. Adult supervision is required. Never leave your child unattended in or around water.
What do I think of the Swimways Easy Spring Lounge?
Well, I did find that there was a bit of a learning curve with this product. It took a little time to figure out how to refold it, but its simple once you do it the first couple of times. It also was a little different getting onto it in the water, but it is so comfortable and relaxing once youre alone without kids screaming to get in the pool with you! I did find that one side or the other of the Swimways Easy Spring Lounge would curl up over my leg a bit, but that was a minor problem. I really liked the way youre partially in the water when floating on this, no sticky plastic clinging to your skin, just the nylon mesh and the cooling water of the pool. It really was nice
for about fifteen minutes!
As I floated lazily in the pool, relaxing, relieving the stresses of the day, my husband came by and said
.Ooops. One of the least relaxing sounds in the world. He informed me that the seam had let go on one side of the nylon covering the outer ring of the lounge. Well, crud, Id gotten a faulty one, and my husband was kind enough to go back to the store and exchange it for another one. Which I relaxed in and enjoyed
for about an hour!
Thats when we noticed the seams splitting on the nylon covering the head pillow. I know we had not over inflated the tubes in any way, making sure they werent hard and actually kept them a little softer. We checked closely on both of the lounges and it is just a case of shoddy workmanship. The nylon mesh is not sewn with enough of a seam allowance; it pulls a little and then basically just shreds. Back to the store it went, and my husband brought me another lounger, this time from AquaLeisure. But thats another review.
Although this is a great idea and one that Id love to recommend, I just cannot do it. Avoid this one.
