SWING-A-WAY Can opener with black handles recent disappointment

Pros: Older versions of the Swing-a-way can opener were very reliable.
Cons: None of the 5 Swing-a-way can openers I have tried recently have proved reliable.
The Bottom Line: The Swing-a-way can openers served me well in years past but I can not find any Swing-a-way can openers that compare to the older ones.

My first can opener was a Swing-a-way. It worked like a charm. I didn't have a dishwasher except for me. It lasted for about 6 to 10 years. I forgot and left it in the dish water and it got gummed up and I had to buy another one. I bought another Swing-a-way can opener and was careful not let it soak in water. It too lasted for as many as 10 years. When it finally gave out due to wear on the cutting wheel and maybe rust I bought another Swing-a-way can opener.
I have bought various Swing-a-way manual can openers and haven't found one that works. 3 have been thrown away. The openers did not open cans completely. There were lids connected and no matter how hard I tried to run the opener over the attached area and I couldn't get the lid completely removed without picking the lid out and twisting it until the metal attachment broke. Sometimes the lid was attached by more than 1 strip of metal. We had to apply so much force to get the cutting wheel to pierce the cans that plastic from the handle broke off on one opener and was thrown away.
The one I am still struggling with jams together just above the rubber handle covers and I have to use two hands to pull the handles apart. There are always shards of metal sticking out and I have to run the can opener over the shards to keep from getting cut.
I will not buy any more Swing-a-way can openers. I am very disappointed.
I found the cardboard from one of these problem can openers that has the Good Housekeeping seal on it. I do not think that the recent Swing-a-way can openers deserve the Good Housekeeping seal.
