In my opinion, the standard by which all other daily use household can openers are judged. The tool is solid, sturdy, reliable, inexpensive, and easy to use. I have owned the same Swing-A-Way can opener for over 35-years and this was inherited from my parents home. Its not trendy or over-designed, just a simple tool done right and looks the part. Use it daily to open cans and bottles.
Per the previous review, food debris may occasionally build up under the cutting wheel and gear sprocket. The can opener is easily cleaned by a trip through the dishwasher, or a quick scrub with some soap and running water. Contrary to another previous review, my Swing-A-Way has not rusted, but the cutting wheel has lost its luster over the years. Thermoplastic handle remains true color and still slightly pliable for easy gripping.
I've never worried about the lid falling into the can because I subscribe to the "hinge" method of can opening. The Swing-A-Way cuts lids neatly, without any wavy edges
A fine product, still made in the USA. I wish more essential items were built with as much concern for utility and durability as the Swing-A-Way can opener.

Oddly, not sold at many stores despite the Swing-A-Way company selling in excess of 100-million units over last five-decades. After looking at several grocery stores, Target, and drug stores, this particular can opener is strangely hard to locate in western Los Angeles.
