| atamogaokashii's Full Review: Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate W/ Marshmallow 10 Pack |
I don't drink coffee or tea because my body reacts somewhat volatilely to caffeine. If I drink something with caffeine in it, the next day I suffer from a pounding headache and nausea. So, when I crave a hot drink I turn to hot chocolate.
Swiss Miss isn't the highest quality hot chocolate out there, but it fits the bill when I'm feeling cold during Minnesota winters. I especially like the kind with the tiny "fake" marshmallows in it. So, I present for you a review on Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate With Marshmallows. Yay!
I bought this 10-pack on sale at my local grocery store for 99 cents. The hot chocolate mix comes in little individual packets that you tear the top off to open. You can make the hot chocolate in hot milk or hot water. I only make it in hot water. I've never tried it in hot milk, so can't comment on how it tastes in milk.
The preparation is easy enough. I fill a mug with water, almost to the top, pour the chocolate mix in and put in the microwave for 90 seconds, then stir after it's warmed up. I never measure the amount of water I put in. The directions say use 6 oz. water (3/4 cup). I just measured how much water I usually use and it's more like 1 1/2 cups. The taste is just fine that way. I guess it depends on how chocolate-ty you want your hot chocolate to be.
About 10 tiny marshmallows come in each packet. They typically disolve right away. This is the disappointing aspect of them. If you like marshmallows in your hot chocolate, then you would be much better off with putting the little marshmallows you can buy in a bag in it. You can't rely on the miniscule marshmallows that you find in the hot chocolate mix. Have I mentioned they're tiny?
This hot chocolate tastes okay. It fills my chocolate cravings just fine. It tastes just about as good as you would expect dried chocolate powder in a packet to taste.
The box claims that there are some supposed benefits to this hot chocolate. They are:
*calcium to maintain strong bones *natural source of antioxidants *99.9% caffeine free
Now, I don't drink this for the health benefits. I doubt the calcium in this helps my bones get stronger. Whatever antioxidants there were in the chocolate have long been boiled away and there still may be enough caffeine in this to give me a headache (I've been watching my symptoms lately and may have to stop drinking this). I drink this mainly for a quick, hot chocolate fix.
All in all, for about 10 cents a cup, this is a good deal, and tastes just fine.
