| welleducated's Full Review: Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa Mix Diet With Calcium 8 Count... |
Okay, it's rare to find someone who doesn't love chocolate. The problem is that it comes with sugar and unwanted calories. So, what's the fix? Amazingly, Swiss Miss makes a great cup of diet cocoa which is actually rich in chocolate flavor, low on calories and has as much calcium as a glass of milk. You can't get better credentials than that!
To start with, a single serving of Swiss Miss provides as much calcium as an 8 oz. glass of milk but is a superior alternative. Remember, milk is created to fatten baby calves. Even skim milk has 85 calories per 8 oz. glass. 1% milk has 105 calories, 2% has a 120 calories (as much as a can of soda) and whole milk is a whopping 150 calories per serving. With a recommendation of 4 glasses of milk a day, Swiss Miss diet would only add 100 calories to your daily intake while milk would add 340 to 600 calories! With 2000 the recommend daily intake of calories, Swiss Miss Diet definitely has an edge!
I've had diet and low calorie and even no sugar added cocoa. Usually it is weak on chocolate flavor. This is always a great disappointment. Instead of having a large, steamy mug, I usually ended up mixing it in a smaller cup just to avoid tasting what amounted to little more than flavored water. Swiss Mix Diet is actually very rich. It has so much flavor that I fix it up in a big 8 oz mug, without noticing any diminishing of choco-licious taste. :)
Even when compared with other low calorie cocoa alternatives, Swiss Miss Diet wins hands down. In my cupboard, I also have a no sugar added Cocoa. It is 60 calories a serving, has 1g of fat and 10g of carbohydrates, yet it does not offer any more chocolate flavor than the Swiss Miss. I just bought it because it happened to be on sale (buy one get one free). {blush} In reality, I doubt I would buy it again because I can have 5 packets of Swiss Miss Diet instead of 2 packets of no sugar added for about the same calorie exchange.
To fix, gradually stir in 6 (or 8) oz of hot (not boiling!) water. I like to use a fork to help break up the powder and prevent chocolate "clumps." If you heat in the microwave, heat ONLY the water. Then stir in the packet of powder afterwards. If you heat with the powder, it will spill out of your cup or mug and create a terrible mess. Obviously, be careful with the first cup to make certain not to burn your tongue or mouth. I usually dip the tip of my pinkie to test the temperature.
