| bayquake's Full Review: Olevia 232V 32 in. TV |
I was reluctant to enter the HDTV market. However, after purchasing this item, I am so glad I did. I needed to upgrade my TV because my 25 inch CRT was simply too bulky for the living room. Although 32inch TV's may seem small by today's standards, it is more than I need for my living room. The color when receiving HD signals is amazing. I've noticed just how vibrant and lifelike the images are.
The HD Tuner is surprisingly good. I live in the suburbs near a major city and didn't expect to catch all of the over-the-air HD broadcasts that I did. By contrast, my tuner on my DVD Recorder isn't regularly able to pick up the signals that the TV can. And while the automatic search may seem like an eternity, it was able to pick up every advertised HD channel in the area.
The feature I enjoy is the ability to switch between a 4:3 and full-screen picture at the press of a button. There are about 3 or 4 different settings and although a stretched image can look odd when sitting directly in front of the TV, at an angle (like the corner of a living room), it actually helps a great deal.
Setup is incredibly easy and intuitive. I wish the coaxial port wasn't facing downward in the back of the unit. It has caused a bent cable and some difficulty trying connect it, but this is minor. And although I don't have a need for two HDMI ports, it would have been nice to have an additional one. There are more than enough ports though: coaxial, component, composite, S-video, and as mentioned HDMI. There's also a headphone jack in the back, which doesn't really appear to have much of a purpose, except maybe as a monitor, which I understand is one of the uses as well.
The overall look is sleek. Having the speakers on the side makes the picture look bigger than it really is. Although most people have never heard of Olevia, because it has the appearance of high quality, it makes a nice piece of furniture.
