Pros: Refreshing, long lasting, soothing, superior to others
Cons: More expensive than most lubricating drops (but worth it)
I have been going crazy lately. To clarify, my eyes have been driving me crazy. I spend long hours on the computer each day, have severe allergies and have been popping Benadryl every four hours to keep them at bay, and have neglected to wear the glasses I have to correct my astigmatism. I suppose I shouldn't complain since I have been doing everything wrong for my eyes.
Nonetheless, I ended up at the eye doctor's office yesterday complaining of painful, burning, itching, and watering eyes. My vision was blurry and I was a very unhappy camper.
An exam showed that my corneas were swollen by about 25% and that I had every reason to whine. All the Benadryl that I was taking to help my allergies also dried out my eyes. Add that to my severe eyestrain and my eyes were just ready to fall out. Or so it seemed.
I was given a prescription for steroid eye drops every two hours and Systane Lubricant Eye Drops to use on the off hours. At night, I am to use Systane Free Liquid Gel before I go to sleep.
All I can say is thank heavens for Systane!

SYSTANE and SYSTANE FREE offer all dry eye sufferers immediate and lasting relief of the most distressing symptomsthe perfect remedy for putting dry eye out of sight, out of mind.
These eye drops come in a green and blue box. Inside is wordy leaflet that tells you more than you will ever need to know about the drops. The bottle of drops is opaque plastic with a white screw off top and a pointed "eye dropper" tip. The drops are clear and watery. Normally these come in both one-half and one-ounce bottles. I was given three boxes of .1 ounce samples to start and will buy the full size box when I am finished with the samples.
I can't fully describe how much my eyes were hurting. It pained me to even keep them open. I am, however, no fan of eye drops. You know how you always close your eyes when you get that puff of air coming at you when you have your eyes examined? That is what I do when I have eye drops coming at me. Many eye drops burn and sting my eyes, even just liquid tears, so I was naturally hesitant to put anything into them when they were so raw.
But, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do and I managed to get the Systane drops into my eyes on the first try. And wow. Immediately, I felt relief. I felt no stinging, burning, or irritation and the drops didn't make my eyes water like some do.
Since I have to apply these drops every two hours while I am awake (and apply the steroid drops on the alternate hour), I am now an old hand at getting the drops in my eyes rather than on them or on my face.
I look forward to the hours that I am to use the Systane drops because every time I use them, my eyes feel awash in relief.
I have tried other eye drops - some for allergy relief, some for dry eyes - and never really got much relief from them. Some stung, others caused my eyes to tear up and water, and still others just didn't do anything. Thankfully, the Systane drops do everything they should and nothing they shouldn't. They gently moisten my eyes and leave them feeling fresh, soothed, and so much better!
These are not medicated and you can use them as needed. If you have dry eyes from wearing contact lenses, being out in the elements, taking antihistamines or other medication, or whatever the reason, try Systane Lubricant Eye Drops. They are not as inexpensive as some others are but you will find that you get prolonged relief from just a drop or two per eye and they are well worth the slightly higher price to feel and see better.

You can buy these eye drops wherever eye drops are sold. Drugstores, mass-market stores and even some grocery stores carry these. They are also available at some online stores including Amazon.com and Drugstore.com. The one-ounce bottle is around $12.00 but they also are available in a one half ounce size for a few bucks cheaper. If I hadn't tried these first, I would have balked at the price. Trust me, they're worth it.
Imagine having swollen corneas. Imagine your eyes are so dry and painful that you literally want to stick your head in a vat full of ice water to get relief from the dryness and pain associated with it. That was me a day ago. Now imagine cool, comforting relief. Ahhh.
These eye drops are excellent. I have tried others and it was like squirting salt water into my eyes (which they essentially are). These drops are like soothing, cool refreshment for your eyes.
If you suffer from dry eyes, try these 5 star drops. You won't ever go back to the cheap stuff again, I promise!
