It wasn’t too long ago that during a visit to my ophthalmolgist, I mentioned how at times, I felt is though I was looking through a gauze pad. It wasn’t so much that my eyes gave me blurred vision, but more of a hazy vision. I told him that sometimes they burned or ached.
After a close examination, he said I had the classic appearance of a condition called “dry eye”. He asked how often I experienced this situation and when I said only few times each month - if that. Sometimes my eyes never bother me. Other times, more frequently.
He told me, in his opinion, I didn’t need a prescription but an over-the-counter medication would work great. He said I should use it as needed - especially since it was expensive. ($5 for the .5 ounce bottle) He gave ma sample bottle.
Systane Lubricant Eye Drops is what, when I need it, gets me through a day.
It’s made to relieve the symptoms of dry eyes, achy eyes, redness, itchiness - basically whatever comes with the “dry eye syndrome.”
This stuff works! I have noticed that once I use it, I don’t need it again for many days, sometimes weeks. Unless, of course, we begin our ravaging high-pollen season. Then I do need it a bit more often.
All I need to do is place one drop in the corner of each eye and gently close my eyes so the lubricant bathes them. Unlike the other OTC meds, I’ve notices that Systane doesn’t burn or initially produce extra redness. This is a gently formula that begin to work the second you apply it.
While other patients, I imagine, would need to use this more often, I am one of the lucky ones who need to use it infrequently but when I need it, I’m glad it’s here.
Although I know Systane comes in gel form, I have never used it. My doctor have me the sample of the liquid and I was very happy with it.
You would think that with all the active ingredients (boric acid, calcium chloride, hydroxypropyl, guar, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride, purified water, sodium chloride, zinc chloride), this stuff would burn your eyes like nothing else would. Yet, I find the mixture doing the complete opposite. There is absolutely no burning effect. It’s smooth, cooling and gentle.
My doctor also told me that I shouldn’t spend so much at my computer. Yeah, like that’s gonna happen! I’ll just use my Systane, thank you.
