msjam's Full Review: Tefal FR4008002 Pro Fry Deep Fryer
I had to say goodbye to my old T-Fal Superclean Deep Fryer a few months ago, it served me well but I was looking for something that was easier to clean and the right size for a family of four. I found a couple of deep fryers that I like, the Euro Pro and Waring Professional but they were too big.
I didn't want to buy something that wasnt exactly what I wanted, then I saw the T-fal Pro Fry deep fryer at Costco. The T-fal Pro Fry has 12-cup oil capacity, the exterior and bowl are made of stainless steel, therefore giving it a professional, expensive look.
Included in the package were:
* A removable lid that has a viewing window and odor filter.
* A removable control unit and heating elements that has the temperature indicator light and an adjustable thermostat.
* An oil filtration system
* A frying basket with handle
* A removable stainless steel bowl contained in stainless steel housing
* A detachable power cable with a magnetic overload protection
According to the instructions, you clean the oil by lifting the control panel and the attached mesh screen out of the fryer, this action removes burnt crumbs from the oil, the oil remains clean and can be used repeatedly up to 10-12 times, which is acceptable if you only cook fries and non-flavorful foods. But after I cooked chicken in this fryer, I had to the change the oil on the 4th time because the oil didn't look clean to me.
I find it easier to use this fryer than my old one because I control the cooking times and temperature, I didn't have that luxury with my old deep fryer. After filling the bowl with oil, just set the desired temperature and the temp. indicator light will turn on, when the desired temp has been reached, the light will turn off and you are ready to fry. When cooking battered food, unclip the mesh filter to avoid food sticking to it, I forgot to do this the first time I cooked battered food and I paid the price by cleaning the mesh filter using a fork!
The fryer comes with a safety feature that that shuts off the appliance in case it is used without any oil or if it overheated. To reset the fryer, wait until the heating element has completely cooled, fill the bowl with oil then push the reset button on the back of the control unit.
Cleaning is so easy. Disassemble the unit by simply unclipping the mesh filter from the control unit, dispose of the oil and place the mesh filter, bowl, housing and lid into the dishwasher. The control unit and heating element are cleaned using a damp cloth.
One of the reason I bought this fryer is for easy storage, it is roughly 7.5 inches wide and about 15 inches long, but the handle sticks out 6 inches.
The instruction manual was very helpful, it gave detailed instruction from preparing the fryer, cleaning and cooking times for both fresh and frozen foods.
Fry like a pro using this Emerilware Deep Fryer. Designed to heat quickly and super hot, it offers high-power precision digital control, so food comes...More at Cooking.com
