Pros:Easy squeeze mechanism, quiet, light weight
Cons:Not meant for every job
The Bottom Line: A perfect tool for anyone with weak hands or arthritis
We have three staple guns in our garage. Two are for my husband and one is just for me. He has the standard silver, metal staple gun, but I find this very difficult to use because the lever takes both of my hands to press down far enough to deploy the staples. This makes for a very frustrating experience.

Then one day while at a work day at church, I saw a female friend of mine using a hammer style staple gun. It worked well for tacking up items that are over your head. It measures about a foot or more in length, and you simply hit the head against the wood, and it leaves a staple. I thought this was the neatest tool and I wanted one. Well, despite the high price, we purchased one, but I ultimately didn't care for it as much as I thought I would. It was not meant for any tight fitting areas or corners.
One day when my husband and I were shopping in a hardware store, I asked him to help me find a staple gun that would be easier for me to use. As I age, I find that I am losing strength in my hands, and I really needed a staple gun that was easy to squeeze. He initially felt I should buy an electric version, but I wanted a portable unit and not one with a cord. We came home with the Stanley Tacker Lite Duty TR35.
The Stanley TR35 is a much smaller version of the standard staple gun. It measures 5 1/2 long, and 3" high at the highest point. It is only 7/8" of an inch wide.
It is made of a heavy duty, yet lightweight plastic. The main body is a bright yellow color, and the handle and loading mechanism along the bottom are black plastic. The brand name and model are printed in black along the front of the staple gun/tacker.
There is a small, 4" ruler on one side of the bottom, and the opposite side measures 10 cm. When the staples are loaded in the tool, they are visible through a one inch window, also along the bottom.
Takes Smaller Staples
Because this is not a full sized staple gun, it takes smaller staples. Our larger staple guns take 1/4" and 3/8" sized staples, but the size that the Stanley TR35 takes is a 5/16", 8mm staple. They are made by Arrow, and work with Stanley and other "Lite Duty Tackers".
Since the Stanley TR35 didn't come with staples, it took us a while to find the proper size, and we actually had to ask for assistance from a store employee. The main thing is to look for is a staple that will fit the Lite Duty Tackers.
Although this box is tiny, (3" x 1 3/4"), it holds 1000 staples. The box says this size staple is Item #215. They are made in the USA.
I couldn't be happier with my Stanley Lite Duty TR35 Staple Gun!! This is a tool that I feel totally comfortable using, and I can use it without any help from my husband. Although he did need to show me how to load it, because staples don't load the same way as our other, larger version.
The bottom has a spring loaded bar, and you squeeze the ends of it together to release, and it pulls right out. Instead of putting the staples inside of this bar (like with our silver metal staple gun), the staples go directly into the bottom of the gun - in the hole that is revealed when the loading bar is pulled out.
Once you know how to load this staple gun, it is very easy to do! The window shows you that the staples are indeed loaded, and also show you when you are about to run out. A handy little feature!
Just today I used this tool to tack felt weather stripping around our doors and windows. Warm weather is the perfect time to do this kind of job, I surely don't want to be putting weather stripping up during the colder months. Since I was working with windows, I had sharp corners to work around, and the smaller staple gun fit easily into these smaller areas perfectly. No matter what position I had the staple gun in, (over my head, sideways, or directly in front of me), the handle was easy to press, and staples were simple to deploy.
There are times when smaller staples like these are needed, and this is one of those times. The weather stripping was a little narrow, and these staples were the perfect size for the job. One of our doors had a larger than normal gap along the top, and I was even able to add two layers of the felt weather stripping with this staple gun, with no problems whatsoever.
From a woman's perspective, this staple gun is perfect! It's lightweight, easy to squeeze, the staples go firmly in place, and are flush with the surface being stapled. Another big plus for me is that this version is extremely quiet!! The full sized metal staple gun used to hurt me my ears when I used it.
Because I can staple using one hand, this leaves the other hand free to hold items, such as the weather stripping, in place. It's much handier to be able to work with both hands, and before I bought this Stanley TR35, I simply could not do that. It took the strength of both of my hands to use the other tools!
The Stanley Lite Duty TR35 isn't for every job. The staple box says this size staple is appropriate for upholstery, valances, headboard coverings, shelving, etc. I am a very crafty person, and while I have not had an occasion to use this in my craft making, I would imagine it would come in very handy.
Gals! If you have been frustrated with hard to use metal staple guns, if you don't have the strength to squeeze them with one hand, and if you are looking for an easy to use staple gun, you need to check out this Stanley Lite Duty TR35 Staple Gun!! I think you will be very pleased with it.
This retails for around $15.00, so it's very affordable.
