Self Absorbed: Great Smelling, Very Functional Tigi Shampoo
Written: May 18 '07
Product Rating:
Pros: Outstanding scent, works well, leaves my hair shiny, not TOO expensive...
Cons: Still TOO expensive for some people, still hunting for the perfect shampoo (does it exist?)...
The Bottom Line: While still not the product that will cure all my hair woes, it is still very good. Thanks, Tigi, for another great Bed Head hair product!

While there isn't one beauty insecurity that spans all of womankind, there are a few that are pretty widespread. One of these is a distaste for our own hair. Whether you hate the color, texture, thickness, or dryness of your locks whatever your problem is there is comfort to be had in the truth that you are not alone.
My particular follicular issue is less about the way my hair looks or its health and more about genetics. Women in my family just don't have much hair. Men suffer the same fate but my male counterparts usually aren't concerned with their girlish good looks. While I'm fine with the color and can deal with its occasional dryness and incredible ability to attract static electricity. What I don't like is that my hair is very, very thin and very, very fine. I've got the kind of hair I warn stylists about. They never believe me until they run their hands through it. There just isn't much there. Fortunately what I do have is healthy.
In a never-ending attempt to make my hair seem thicker and possibly infuse a bit more body into my 'do I've once again resorted to Tigi Bed Head products. I've had great luck with their salon line in the past (in particular the best hair spray ever--Tigi Bed Head Hard Head) and am also fond of the fact that as far as "premium" products go they are affordable--running between $10 and $15 for most things. In addition to being reasonably priced and working well, Bed Head also tends to smell wonderfully without making me nauseous with thoughts of Jolly Rancher candies of a fifteen year old girls cheap perfume.
My newest acquisition is the Self Absorbed Mega Vitamin Shampoo. A product that promises to "power up as your shampoo," the 25oz container comes complete with pump and along with the contents is orange hued. The color is indicative of the divine scent. Self Absorbed smells of yummy citrus--a little orange, a little lemon, and a little grapefruit. It is so fresh and perfect for my hair.
Of course if you plan on spending $12 on shampoo, you'd like to know there is something great about it aside from scent. Self Absorbed is excellent because of other reasons--namely it works! Like I said, my hair is very thin and very fine. I often find that shampoos (and conditioners) weigh down what hair I have. This applies to both cheap and expensive brands. I have found good and bad products on both ends of the spectrum. This particular one is actually formulated with a mix of vitamins A, B2, B5, and E to help stressed or chemically treated hair happy. Fortunately for Bed Head (and this gal) it is also very light and not in the least bit heavy.
Self Absorbed keeps my hair shiny, bouncy, and generally well behaved. My hair is shiny (it would take a real tragedy for it not to be) and is smooth. It works on my chin-length coif and is supposed to work just as well on shorter and longer styles. I have yet to find any combination of shampoo and conditioner that gives me lasting volume and if there is one thing that is disappointing, it is that Self Absorbed still is not that miracle cure.
In conclusion: I like the smell. I like that my hair is clean. I like that the price isn't too horrible. I like that my hair is shiny. I like that it isn't drying. I do not like that I still haven't found a true volumizing program that doesn't require goo to boost my roots.
