Tigi S-Factor Helps Conquer Humidity, Gives Hair Luster and Flexibility
Written: Jun 27 '08
Product Rating:
Pros: No buildup, smells nice, lives up to claims to shine and moisturize.
Cons: A bit costly, some won't like bottle shape.
The Bottom Line: If you have hair that becomes unmanageable in some weather conditions, Tigi S-Factor Lusterizer is worth a try. Suitable for most hair types.
MsHooterville's Full Review: Tigi S Factor Smoothing Lusterizer
Tigi S-Factor is one of the newer products I've discovered roaming through Trade Secret, scoping out the items I'll return before 11 a.m. on Tuesdays for an additional 20 percent off and double bonus points toward a $20 off gift certificate.
It was near the Paul Mitchell and Sebastian products I usually buy and I noticed the funky shaped bottle and "Smoothing Lusterizer" label. I asked the manager on duty "What will this do for my hair?"
She said it adds some shine and helps tame frizzies, which I often get on humid days. The price was relatively high at $28 for about 8 oz., but since I was getting a discount I decided to try it. In fact, I squeezed out a dime-sized dollop of the white gel-like stuff, coated my palms with it and rubbed it through my dry, styled hair right there in the store.
"Your hair does have more shine now," the manager said, and she was right. The best part was that my hair didn't feel like I had put anything in it.
For Use on Dry or Damp Hair
For the rest of the day, I was pleased with the way my hair held up on a damp, late fall day. There was no evidence of conflict with the Sebastian Potion 9 I leave in my hair after shampooing and conditioning.
Tigi S-Factor is described as "a defrizzer that is suitable for all hair lengths. Instantly smoothes, increases moisture absorption, significantly reduces drying time and leaves hair sleek, sexy and shiny" and for the most part lives up to that claim.
After getting Tigi S-Factor Lusterizer home, I applied the same dime-sized dollop to my damp hair before blow drying by rubbing it between my palms and "scrunching" it through my permed hair, concentrating on the ends first and massaging the rest of it from tip to root. When your hair is towel-dried you will feel it at first, but not after your hair is dried and styled.
You can apply the same amount to your dry and styled hair without buildup if desired. I don't like to feel like I have too many products in my hair, and will only continue to use those that don't create a "dirty" feel because they're sticky. Tigi S-Factor passed that test easily through the winter.
Where to Buy Tigi S-Factor Products
This product is distinctive for the upside-down bottle and pointed "top" that's like a handle. Since this product is fairly thick, it's handy to grab the end and shake it down for easier squeezing. But forget about trying to make it stand up straight in your medicine cabinet. I just threw mine in a basket I keep by the tub with other things I use while bathing.
Besides Trade Secret, I've seen Lusterizer at ULTA where there was a "buy two get one free" sale, online at Amazon.com and other Internet retailers. You may be able to get a better deal by googling "Tigi S-Factor Lusterizer" and seeing what's available.
Likely a Great Find for People With Frizzies
Lusterizer smells nice, but not too feminine for men who think it might work for them. It works well in combination with other products and brands I use, so I can readily recommend it to most people -- even those with color treated and permed hair like mine.
