| Mininut's Full Review: TMP 11" Shrek Donkey Plush |
Oh to be a 2 year old and have nothing to do all day except watch the Shrek movie over and over and over and over and over. (You get my point right?) When we brought the Shrek movie home from the store and placed it in the VCR, we never dreamed that we would one day be able to recite the entire move word for word and line for line. Because of Wayne’s love for Shrek we set out to find some Shrek toys, right before Christmas mind you so it was a task to find anything. Most Shrek toys were gone but we did manage to find a few items here and there in stores and some on E-bay. Wayne’s favorite toys of all time are his plush Shrek and his Plush Donkey.
About the plush donkey
Donkey is a 12” plush toy (even though the box says he is an 11" his tag says he is 12") that would make a great cuddle toy. He has a gray plush soft body that is a paler gray on his under side. He has a soft gray tale topped with a bushy black bulb of synthetic hair. His mane and eye brows are made of the same synthetic hair and unlike a real donkey, this guy’s mane goes from the tip of his head all the way down his back. His hooves are made of black vinyl he has plastic eyes. He looks remarkably like the actual Shrek donkey from the movie and I was quite impressed by that. He has very large rubber white teeth and ears that stand straight up but can be moved about. His nostrils are embroidered onto his snout and it surprisingly looks good. This doll was very well designed and made. Donkey’s ears and legs have thin metal wires called stiffeners in them so that you can make him pose, but having him do anything more than stand is going to be impossible unless you prop him up on something. His snout and back have plastic stiffeners in them to help make him stouter. Like the Shrek doll the Donkey’s box said he was fully pose able but I think their idea of “fully pose able” is warped. His ears and legs are moveable but only to some extent. Donkey also has a small white tuft of hair under his chin that is made of synthetic hair.
What mommy likes about Donkey
The tag on Donkey says to surface wash and air dry. Now anyone with a toddler knows that toys get dirty, especially when your 2-½ year old insists on dragging it everywhere with them. Donkey has not been through as much as Shrek but he has had his share of drinks spilled on him, Wayne has gotten sick on him, and he has been dropped in the mud and more. There is no way that most of the dirt would come off from just a surface wash so I toss him in a pillow case and throw him in the washer. The pillowcase works great on all stuffed toys and keeps them from being beaten around in the washing machine. In a sense it is like a gentle cycle for toys. Do not put Donkey in the dryer because it will singe off the black synthetic hair. I don’t know what is worse a bald donkey or a donkey with short singed hair (yes I have seen 2 toys just like this one destroyed because a friend decided to toss her daughters in the dryer). I like the fact that I can wash Donkey thoroughly and easily and keep him sanitized when he goes to bed with Wayne. He was also a much more affordable toy than Shrek was. I purchased him new on E-bay for $9.99 and considering most were going for $30.00, that was a heck of a deal. Please note that because of the wire and plastic stiffeners, Donkey is not made for children under 2-years of age.
What Wayne likes about Donkey
Donkey is small enough for Wayne to carry around and durable enough that he can take a beating and keep in one piece. Wayne is a fairly rough child with his toys especially since he has gotten into the throwing phase. Donkey just keeps going right along with Shrek. We have also noticed that his imagination has come along way and he interacts Donkey and Shrek quite well using his own imaginary skits and such. He is a lot of fun to watch while he plays with his toys. The only downside that I can tell he has with Donkey is that he does not fit in any of his hot wheels (laugh).
In closing
Every one of the McFarlane Shrek toys that Wayne owns is made well and they have withstood a lot of toddler abuse. I am thrilled with the quality and durability of these toys and they really seem like they would last a really long time. I highly recommend any McFarlane toy.
