Underneath my strange exterior of serial killer fascination and hatred of romantic comedies, what I really enjoy for Valentine's Day is the trifecta of girldom: chocolate, Tiffany & Co, and stuffed animals. Just in time for this year's "greeting card company designed" holiday, Ty has released a special stuffed animal to win the hearts of giraffe lovers everywhere.
On her giraffishness:
Blushed doesn't hold any pretense that she is meant to resemble a real giraffe. While she does have the standard shape of a giraffe in both body, long neck, and head, she is soft pink with spots made of red hearts. She has red heart hoofs and a red tuffed tail. If you ever see a giraffe like this in the wild, please lay off the hallucinogenic plants.
Much like the other giraffe in the Ty line, Blushed has been created with a minimalist approach. Fortunately her curves and lines still allow her to appear giraffe-like, instead of creeping into cow or horse territory. Anyone with an affinity for giraffe should be pleased with her whimsical design.
Hugability:
Blushed is all around smaller than my previously reviewed Devious, but her fur is less velvety yet a softer texture than her counterpart. She is also more thoroughly stuffed than Devious, and her head has no problem remaining completely upright- in fact she can sit up straight without issue. This doesn't mean she is not hugable, but she will take a bit more time to "wear in."
Playability:
Her smaller size and over-stuffing limit her flexibility, but Blushed was created to fit a specific holiday and theme. She would be much more appropriate alongside a bouquet of roses than on the playground, and I can see her light pink fur showing dirt very quickly.
Should you buy this?
On the inside of her swing-tag is a place for you to write "to" and "from" with love, so it is clear that this giraffe is meant to be gifted, but who should you give this giraffe to? Her tags state that she is for 3 and up, but I can still see her small, narrow feet and smaller face being a choking hazard for small kids. I also wouldn't suggest this giraffe for anyone who hates Valentine's Day, or the color pink, but if your special someone enjoys giraffe, and you want to get something cute and unique, Blushed is the giraffe for you.
