Dark Lotus: Who Turned Out Da Lights

Written: Oct 20 '01 (Updated Mar 28 '07)
Pros:It's Psychopathic, Consists of 3 Bands Not Just One, Depressing
Cons:No Track Titles, Hard To Find, May Offend Some
The Bottom Line: This is the first release by Dark Lotus, and if you are down with Psychopathic & ICP, this is a must have!

Since this is the first release by Dark Lotus, let me take you into the Psychopathic world for a minute so you can understand how this all came about. Dark Lotus is not just one band consisting of 5 members, it is a juggalo collection of 3 bands and 5 members. So wipe off your feet and step into the Lotus Pod, this could take awhile!

Who Or What Is Dark Lotus?
Dark Lotus is a group consisting of 3 separate bands: Insane Clown Posse, Twiztid, & Blaze Ya Dead Homie (Marz also helped out). More specifically they are named: Violent J, Shaggy 2 Dope, Jamie Madrox, Monoxide Child, Blaze & Marz. [The reason I don't use Marz as a band is that he is no longer with Psychopathic anymore, there were some discrepancies and things just didn't work out. So, I don't consider him a part of the band, but he did contribute greatly to the album.] This is the first release by Dark Lotus and hopefully not the last. Since this is a collection of 3 bands, the subjects throughout this album are something which no juggalo has seen before. Sure you've seen the killing fields of ICP, and the hardcore rap of Blaze, and the twisted stylings of Twiztid, but you've never seen it all pulled together in one massive heap of voodoo majik. The subjects covered here are: Black magic, suicidal patients, earth's destruction, dancing with dead girls, drinking blood and most importantly more juggalo love. So, you can see this album will talk about some deep dark subjects that most people would find eerie or disturbing. But that's what makes Dark Lotus and the entire Psychopathic group so great.

There are 16 total tracks. The first is just an intro telling us what the album is all about, and the last is an outro giving props to all the websites that show true clown love. So, really you are only getting 14 quality tracks, but they are well worth it for any Psychopathic juggalo. Also, this cd doesn't have a track listing anywhere so no one is for certain what the track titles are called. There were also rumors of a pre-release which had different songs on it, which is why some of the track titles have 2 names. Honestly I think it was all a big hoax, but then again this is Dark Lotus so there could have been some black magic involved. The titles I'm using below are listed on the realjuggalos.com website, and I'd think they have a better understanding of Dark Lotus then any other website would have. If you look on any music website (cdnow, etc) their track listings may differ from the ones I listed, and if so, it's because no one is positive about those names. But I assure you, there are 16 tracks, and they are all the same no matter what they are called.

The Track Listing

Intro - This is the basic intro to the album, some guy is speaking, and he tells us what this album will be focusing on. Also, he hear that the next step in your life in the 6th Jokers Card for which every juggalo has been awaiting.
{Lyrics}: The very next message brought before us Will be the almighty 6th Jokers Card For now let us relish within...The Lotus

Ali-Ba-Ba - This song is great, the background beat is another lame loop. Marz & Blaze are all over this one, so it's something new at least. It has an egyptian theme to it, which is definitely new for there style of music.

Something - This song helps out the black magic theme, because something tells you what to do and you never really know what it is. This is a creepy song, and yet another loops beat.
{Lyrics}: Somethings telling me I'd dead, It's going to cripple and r@pe me.

Hurt Myself - This guy have a serious problem, and hurts himself like an idiot. The lyrics are funny and you can clearly picture what they are talking about. He mosh pit dances between 4 trees, and then bashes his head against a bed with 4 inches to move his head around. There are some other disgusting things talked about here, but are to sick to list. Again, the loop beats are a popular thing here, but interrupted during the chorus and whatnot. The chorus here is probably the most catchy part of the song, but the lyrics are truly strange.
{Lyrics}: I jump in a mosh pit, but I'm alone Between four trees I get it on My brain is hemorrhaging it's them or me It ain't easy knocking over a tree.

Call Upon Your Gods - This song is deep if you think about. Basically just saying those people dying in jail always get ultra religious just before they die, like it's their last resort to find a ending to their life. The music is slow and dark like, not so much a loop, but different beats all the way.
{Lyrics}: Call Upon Your Gods Religion has left you Now the final hour Cross the final line Life will ending but there is not end to time.

We Danced - 5 kids (Dark Lotus) go into a cemetery to party, only to find some dead girls to dance with. Again, another creepy song, reminds me of the song,Thriller or the movie, Night Of The Living Dead. The music is great! It's a bassish loop, but it's just funny to hear along with Jamie's vocals. This song contains the funny lyrics of ICP but the great vocals of Twiztid. This is a great example of how each band comes to together to form something new.
{Lyrics}: Had my pants down on my nug rest I felt something poking my a$$ It's another ghouly girly Look at me I'm naked early....I can't believe we danced And I don't even dance.

cigaM kcalB - This is yet another slow song, and contains the darkness of black magic this whole album is based on. Some things they say are strange: "I go east, you go west, and the moon follows both of us". If you think about it, that would never happen in real life, but here it can..black magic. There are other strange things here as well.
{Lyrics}: Why? When people witness magic They'll ignore it, and say it never happened Only thing they'll believe is what's tragic God throws it, nobody wanna catch it.

Gimme Dat Blood - This is almost an all Twiztid song, talking about wanting blood like a vampire or something. Again, more loops beats with interruptions for special parts. This is their food, without it, they would die. Like I've said before, this is one song some people might no like, but to me it's great.
{Lyrics}: I've been known for blood sippin' Pull the trigger everybody trippin' All on the carpet, splattered on the wall Shotgun blast, couple people fall I even took a slug, I'm already dead Cocked the gauge and made a river of his forehead Wiped his blood on the front of my shirt.

Head-Ache - Another VERY slow dark deep eerie song. Some guy is a freaky, and thinks the voices in his head are controlling him. This is another of those strange songs. This would be great to listen to in the dark, but that could be said for alot of these songs.
{Lyrics}: My body wont stop shakin' These voices keep on makin' Me do things to people This must be just the work of Satan.

Bad Rep - This song is more about the band in general. Everyone hates them and wants them dead. There isn't much here about the Dark Lotus theme, but more about the bands itself. Of course it still has the funny lyrics.
{Lyrics}: Speakin' of crackheads I am a crackhead I mean I don't smoke, but I gotta crack in my head My daddy used to slap my face around with a brick Until finally the back of my cranium split.

B!tch I'm Sexy - Once long ago no one liked the Dark Lotus members because they were a bunch of nobody's and looked ugly. But now they are popular and everyone wants a piece of them. They basically say they are the best lovers anyone could ever have. This songs refers to sex and sexual enduendos. More loops beats here as well.

Swarm - A cool song indeed. Basic plot, Dark Lotus will attack like a swarm and destroy everything before anyone can do anything about it. It's a aggressive song showing people they will do anything to those who want them dead.
{Lyrics}: Mass murderer, strangler Wig splitter, mangler Blood suckin' vampire Dark Lotus, king of fire. Swing off your ceiling fan And jump like an ape And stomp on your head Until it pops like a grape.

I Wanna Die - I think the title says it all. To die would be the greatest thing, no funerals, no possessions, you could be all alone in Shangralia by means of the Wagons. You'd have to know something about ICP and their story to understand why they want to die.
{Lyrics}: If I was to die It'd make a lot of people happy No funeral, possessions No plot at the cemetery Finally, I can be alone in my own world The wagons come take me away from the Killing Fields I wanna die so I can see the other side I wanna die so I can fly.

Black Crows - The black crows are a bad sign meaning you are about to die. This song is really erie and dark. If you have a thing about death then you shouldn't listen to this song at all. For once the beat changes throughout the song, and not just a loop.
{Lyrics}: Black blood within the raven Have I been forgaven? A haven of crows watching, squaking Drifting above me hawking What lies beneathe its eyes? Whose guiding it as it flies? When the red moon bleeds, it feeds Fulfillin' it's needs.

Juggalo Family - This song is a total all out song just for the juggalos. Anyone following Psychopathic will love this song, because they give props to all the juggalos that have followed ICP & Twiztid.
{Lyrics}: And they wanted to know If I would trade ten juggalos for a hundred mainstream fans And I said "I wouldn't trade ten juggalos for a 100,000 mainstream fans" Ten juggalos is priceless to me... Mass murder makes me happy Dead bodies make me happy Say what you will of me I'll always have juggalo family.

.Com - The final outro to the album and a tribute to the websites and companies that have helped the juggalo world be what it is today. The music is the same music used to make the song "SuperStar" on the Pendulum #9 Comic. If you're heard that song, you'll know how it goes. I think this track is cool, because it gives a shoutout to over 50 websites and whatnot (4:46 minutes long), but it's a weak closing to the Dark Lotus cd overall.

Well as you can see this album is the first release by Dark Lotus, and there are alot of dark disturbing songs. The subject matters may not appeal to most people, unless you are into the Psychopathic bands. If you are into gothic stuff, this album could be for you. But for the most part if you can't stand death or strange happenings, then stay away. Hopefully Dark Lotus will have more releases since ICP is coming to a close once the 6th Jokers Card is released. I don't see much of a future for ICP, maybe that's why they joined together to make Dark Lotus and Phychopathic Rydas. This why it looks as if they are a new group, but really it's the same old ICP everyone loves to hate.

I'd recommend this album to anyone who is following ICP, or wants to follow ICP. Fans of old skool ICP may find the new sound alittle to strange, but it's still ICP folks. Those who were sickened by ICP back then, may find the new sounds more appealing to them. There are alot of people following gothic today (I'm not one of them though!) so this could appeal to you in some ways. I think this is ICP's way of getting out to more fans and giving them what they want. I want the violence and killings, not the darkness rap, so ICP lost me on that behalf. Not interested in death, blood, gothic, don't like violence? Then forget about this, you aren't missing out it, since you'd never understand anyways.
