| goldjay's Full Review: Talking Chef Magic Kitchen |
My daughter absolutely loves her Talking Chef Magic Kitchen!! She plays with it every day and many different times each day. There is so much to do so each playtime is different, fun, and full of imagination!
Let me first describe this kitchen to you.
It is sort of a triangular shape and does thus does not take up as much room as other kitchen sets might. The oven and the refrigerator are on the base with a triangular shaped shelf between them so that they are angled away from each other. The oven is on the left side with a see through window. The refrigerator is on the right with a pretend ice maker.
Above the oven is a cooktop. There are three knobs to turn on the oven and the burners. When the kitchen is turned on, the burners will glow red when the knobs are turned. When you then place a pan on the burner, you will hear the sound of the food "sizzling"
Above the refrigerator is the sink. The faucet really moves and when the sink is turned on, you can hear the sound of water coming from the faucet. Behind the sink is a small "drying rack" in which the dishes will fit.
Between the cooktop and the sink is the telephone and answering machine. The telephone is blue and cordless. The phone rings from the control panel and not the actual phone. If you don't pick up the phone in time, the answering machine gets it and you press a red button to retrieve your message.
Below the phone center is the cookbook. You can turn the page on this cookbook and Chef Tony will tell you how to make either pancakes or spaghetti. He will give instructions like, "put the spaghetti in the pan" or "now flip the pancakes". Things that your child can easily do and have fun with.
Above the phone center is the microwave oven which opens with the press of a blue button. It is small but the food does fit inside and it is kind of high up (so that my 2 year old can't really reach it yet). There is also a shelf on either side of the microwave.
This kitchen set comes with a pan, dishes, cups and utensils as well as a good amount of play food, including, pancakes, bacon, eggs, chicken legs, spaghetti, meatballs, apple, banana, milk and more.
My daughter plays with this kitchen frequently. She likes to chew on the pancakes and turn on the stove. She walks around with the phone saying "hello". Some of the things that this kitchen does are above her at this point (she is nearly 2 years old). For example, she doesn't follow Chef Tony's directions when he is dictating a recipe yet. But, she has lots of fun with her kitchen and I know that she will grow and use more aspects of this kitchen as she does. This is a toy that I know will last her a long time.
She certainly has learned to use her imagination with this kitchen. She pretends to eat foods and she does even pretend to cook them.
I like this kitchen because it is so creative. It uses space wisely and is not overly huge. But it still has all the features of the kitchen sets I saw in the store which would take up a lot more room.
This is a sturdy toy such that when my daughter leans on it, it stays upright. It is a safe toy because even though it is labelled for ages 3 and up, the pieces are all large enough to not be choking hazards.
This toy takes 3 C batteries that have lasted a very long time even though my daughter gets a lot of use out of this toy. I am amazed at how long the batteries have lasted so far (we've had it for several months and not changed the batteries yet)
This kitchen was somewhat difficult to put together. I found that the screws you have to put in were not easy to get in. I really had to work hard at it. But, it's done and it was a one time thing so it wasn't that big of a deal.
I would recommend this toy for all chidren because it is a lot of fun!
