When it comes to picking out a tampon, most women get pretty selective and have their favorites based on comfort, absorption and ease of insertion. These variables are things that men will never, ever be privy to; to put it mildly, they dont have a clue. To most men a tampon is a tampon unless you give them a specific name and size written on a piece of paper and make them read it out loud a few times, most will come back with some off the wall brand or in a size that you will never use. Of course if its a man thats lived with a woman or comes from a family full of chickies
hell know the routine inside and out and will be able to spot the correct box as soon as he hits the aisle. This goes hand on hand with asking men to pick up a box on the way home; I see them in the grocery store all the time paranoid, cracking a sweat, trying to conceal it any way possible. Come on men, be proud that you have a woman in your life, jump up on the huge Pepsi 24 pack display, hold that box of tampons up in the air and proudly proclaim, Ive got a woman in my life and damn it, she isnt pregnant!. Hey, you might get thrown out of the store but at the same time you might start a trend you may be the person that breaks the mold and makes it socially acceptable to grab that box off the shelf, slap down the .55 cent off coupon and say Hey, did you see that game yesterday? all without batting an eye.
Tampax Tampons Super Plus
All joking aside, picking out the best tampon for your body isnt something that just happens. You have different sizes to choose from, scented or unscented, various applicators or the mini ones with no applicator. The super plus size is reserved for the heaviest of heavy days in my case three of the six days that Im cursed. Ive mentioned it in a few reviews before but Ill say it again I bleed like a stuck pig and there is no other way to appropriately phrase it so if that seems a bit extreme, try viewing it from my side of the fence. The super plus size is designed to absorb 12 15 grams of fluid however this is something that I find rather useless since no woman in her right mind is going to sit there and try to devise a plan to accurately calculate how much blood she is expelling at any given time. I dont know about anyone else but there are a ton of outside elements that effect my period from weather to stress, what I eat to how active I am my period is about as predictable as the path of a tornado. With that said, the super plus size is the one that I always have on hand because I know that without a doubt, I will need every last one of them at some point in time.
For those that bleed heavily, you know the angst that can accompany wearing tampons. Having to constantly change them due to a intense flow gets to be a mind numbing process; shake the box to see how many are left, grab one, rip open the wrapper, spread legs, insert, wiggle and wash hands. The Tampax disposable ones, for me, are more comfortable to insert than the ones with the plastic applicator maybe its my paranoia level but putting something in me thats plastic and has that claw-like end on it just scares me. Besides that, the cardboard can be flushed without worrying about it doing damage to a septic system or clogging a toilet line but, in my case, when I am at the peak of my period, I am in the bathroom every half hour to forty five minutes and that dear friends is enough cardboard to clog even the most advanced plumbing system known to man.
If there is one possible downside to the Tampax Tampon family it has to be the ridged rings on the outer applicator. Maybe its just me, maybe I have big fingers
but these things arent worth dick when you are trying to get a grip on the applicator and if your hands are wet good freakin luck trying to work with it. The Kotex Security ones have a nice sized plastic ridge on them so you get insert them easier and theres less of a chance of one getting wasted in the process. If Tampax would just improve the ridges on the outer part of the cardboard applicator, chances are Id never buy another brand but until they do, Kotex will still get huge thumbs up from me in this regard.
Outside of the Kotex Super Plus, these are the tampons that I find work best for me especially when I am in the middle of my period and Im bleeding like a banshee. Tampax claims that these will absorb between twelve and fifteen grams of fluids [no, they dont say blood], since there is no way to determine exactly how much blood you are losing at any given time, my general rule of thumbs is this if you need to change your tampon more than every two hours its time to move up to a larger size. But hey, thats just me, Ive only been using tampons for [roughly] eighteen years. You will get leaks if you experience heavy clotting or dont get the tampon properly inserted but for the most part these work effectively even on the heaviest days.
One of the biggest things to consider when picking out a tampon is the portability factor how well they travel in your purse or backpack. I am kind of anal retentive when it comes to my tampons so I keep them inside a zipper styled plastic bag so the wrappers dont get ripped up. These wrappers are paper so there is a chance that they could rip or get damaged and, unlike the Kotex plastic ones, after a month or so, the inner part of the applicator mysteriously slides into the larger one leaving the wrapper susceptible to getting mangled. Ive never seen any type of plastic carrying case for tampons outside of the ones made for the small O.B. non applicator ones so Tampax, design something on the discrete side so we can carry our tampons to the bathroom without everyone knowing our business.
These come in several different sizes the large and most cost effective size being the 40 count box for about five dollars. Most grocery stores put these on sale from time to time for 2 for $5.00 so stock up and use coupons! If you are in to buying bulk, check stores like Costco and Smart & Final for bundled multi packs or the industrial 100 count cases. For those who only need a few of these a month, you can get them in the 20 count box or as part of an assorted sized box. For me, the 40 count is the only way to go because, like I said earlier, I know that at some point in time they will be put to good use.
Things To Know
• Inside each and every box of Tampax Tampons youll find a small fold out leaflet explaining the dangers of using tampons, the risk of TSS [toxic shock syndrome] and directions on how to insert and remove the tampon. Even if you have been using tampons for years, you may want to read the warnings and risks since some have been updated to reflect new medical information.
• The Tampax Tampon with biodegradable applicator comes in several different absorption levels: - lites [up to six grams], regular [6 9 grams], super [9 12 grams], super plus [12 15 grams] and the ever convenient-for-most multi pack. Using the smallest sized tampon can help reduce your risk of TSS, please read the provided product leaflet for more information.
• For more information about the Tampax line of products, please visit their official website at www.tampax.com. You can read more about absorbency, risks and some of the most common questions that women have about using tampons.
The Bottom Line
Outside of the Kotex Security Tampons, these are the ones that I use most often. They allow me the freedom to be able to leave the house without wondering if I am going to be able to make it to the bathroom in time. For those who have a heavy flow you will understand how crippling it can be to have two to three days of this having to plan your day around being within twenty feet of a bathroom and having plenty of tampons on hand to make it through the day. While these wont change your flow or help with any associated issues [cramps, bloating, mood swings etc] they will help make things a little more bearable and offer you a view of something other than the bathroom. For those of you who have light periods consider yourself blessed and dont go around bragging either, us heavy flow chicks just dont like to hear how you only use two or three tampons a day.
As always, thanks for the read!
