The Tamrac Camera Bag 5200 is designed to store a compact 35mm, APS or digital camera. The 5200 offers protection for your camera, space for film or other accessories along with an adjustable shoulder strap and a belt loop for carrying the case.
Details
The 5200 measures in at roughly 3 inches wide, 5 inches high and 2 ½ inches deep. The case has two separate compartments, the main interior pocket for the camera and a smaller front pocket for film or other camera accessories. There is a top section that folds over the 5200 and locks down via a buckle to cover both of the pockets.
There is a shoulder strap on this case and is in general, not designed to be removed. However, it is not too hard to unthread the strap and take off the bag completely. Generally, if I am going to have something over my shoulder, its just the camera itself and so I take off the shoulder strap and just use the case and either run it through my belt or run it through a backpack strap. However, my partner, who has this bag, likes the shoulder strap and keeps it on so he can wear it over his shoulder.
The materials used to make the case are resilient synthetics that can take a lot of beating and are water repellent. The entire case is foam-padded on the inside - this really doesnt mean that you can throw the case with a camera in it off a cliff or drop it into a lake, but with normal to heavy use, the case will survive and still protect your camera and really won't show any damage. I got a case for my partner a few years ago and while hes not a hard user of it, the case has stayed together with no fraying or other damage.
The water repellent feature of the 5200 is nice to have in any camera case when you have the top closed and locked over the interior pockets, you really dont need to worry about having to cover up the case if you are out in the rain so long as you keep the flap closed, water wont be able to get into the bag and on your camera (even so I would suggest that you always keep the camera in a ziploc bag during rainstorms, even if you have it in the bag. Whenever Im going to be anywhere there is a chance of rain, I make sure to have some backup Ziplocs just in case).
When the 5200 gets dirty we have thrown this case into the washing machine and dryer and it has come just fine it actually softens up the case a bit and I havent noticed any of the outer material or the interior foam padding degrading from the washes.
Final Thoughts
The Tamrac Camera Bag 5200 is a durable case for compact cameras (35mm, APS or digital) that wont disappointment anyone with its camera protecting ability.
