| d_absolute's Full Review: Tangent AVR-100 - Silver Receiver |
Out of its box, the AVR-100 looks impressive. However, once all components are hooked up, it falls flat. The user is only provided with the capability to adjust bass and treble; no further equalization is possible. I found the low-end response to be minimal below 1 MHz, even with the bass level at maximum. The low-end that was present was tight, but not substantial. (Note: I do not listen to bass-heavy music, so for ME to say this, well ...) Also, the remote is very impractical; hopefully, this was redesigned with later models.
After two days, I'm reverting back to my Sony STR-D390. It's rated at only 35 watts, but sonically, it is far superior to the AV 100. I'm very disappointed. I thought acquiring a Harman/Kardon product would be a small step upward ... unfortunately, this one was not.
