| excise's Full Review: Tanita BF680W Duo Scale Plus Body Fat Monitor & Bo... |
I purchased this Tanita Body Fat / Water Percentage scale about 4 months ago. That time period has allowed me to become familiar with both the machine and my readings on the machine. I call it a machine and not a scale, for weighing you is only 1/3 of what it does. Yes, the scale portion is dead on. Nice, easy to read LCD digits insure even tired morning eyes can see the facts.
I like the high-tech yet not too out there look of the scale as it sits in my bathroom. There are two preset memories, typically used between spouses. Each memory will have height and activity level input. After a weight (or mass) measurement is obtained, the scale will use a low impedance electrical signal which can not be felt to determine your body fat percentage and water percentage. Supposedly, this is one of the more accurate methods out there for folks to do at home. I might consider comparing these measurements to a plastic body fat caliper.
In any event, my body fat percentages seem to hover around 13 percent. I'd buy that. I set the scale to athlete mode. However, I think my percentage may be slightly higher than that in my torso. I wonder if the machine focuses in more on your legs (as that would be the shortest distance in a circuit between your two feet). I do jog regularly and use an elliptical machine. All in all, I believe the measurements to be accurate. One nice thing is how an effort to consume more water can be shown over a couple week period to increase your water percentage and decrease your body fat percentage!
This scale must be placed on a level, hard surface for best results. I've had no problems to date. It is hard to believe I get all these features in an accurate device for under a hundred bucks! Buy this scale and you'll have no regrets.
