Tara Thai is one of those interesting places that appeals more to a sense of style than substance. The food, while not terrible, is not excellent either. The satay is a bit bland, as are most dishes, and most traditional main courses are a bit uninspired. Where Tara Thai shines is in its appetizers, which are quirky and satisfying. I would recommend that one order a couple of the appetizers and forgo the main courses all together. The other thing that I both love and love to hate about this restaurant is the decor. While the surroundings are lavish, they are overdone and distracting. One gets a sense that the goal is to create a hip place that serves pretty good food, rather than to create a top-notch restaurant. While I would recommend this restaurant and do go there from time to time, I would suggest that if you are truly looking for an excellent traditional Thai restaurant there are many other places you could go (Benjarong comes to mind).
