nuzzle77's Full Review: Targus Mini Kaleidoscope Mouse (AMU0503US)
I've only had my new mouse for a few days, but I am a big fan. I purchased the Targus Mini Kaleidoscope Mouse for use with my Dell 700m laptop. Although I don't really mind the touchpad, there are times that it is just easier for me to use a mouse.
With my laptop running Windows XP-Pro, I plugged in my new mouse (via USB), and it self-installed within a matter of about 15 seconds. Also, it immediately began scrolling through its palette of soft colors that display on the mouse's body (under where your palm would rest). One thing that did disappoint me was that the colors do not morph from one into another. Rather, one color fades in, then fades out, then the next fades in, then fades out, and so on. The other note regarding the colors (honestly the main attraction to this product), is that when you move the mouse, the current color stays illuminated. Only when the mouse is "at rest" does the scrolling colors occur.
The size of the mouse is perfect for a laptop. Weighing in at only 2.5 ounces, this thing barely even registers on the scale. At 1.25" X 2", this really is a mouse made for the road. I can see how a person with large hands may have to adjust to get used to the small size, but I cannot see it being a big problem. I'm a 28-year-old man and I have no problem with it.
The retractable USB cord is a really great feature, and one that surprised me when I first used it. While holding the mouse in one hand and the USB head in the other, you simply pull them apart and stop when you reach the desired length. When you are ready to retract it, you give both ends a tug and, like lowering the blinds or raising the shades in a window, the cord self-retracts. Two of the other great features are the optical sensor (instead of a wheel that can catch dirt and dust), and the scroll wheel between the two mouse buttons for easy page up/page down action.
Overall, I'm very happy with the mouse. The extreme light weight can make the product feel cheap and fragile...but so far it has held up. I'm sure that you can get a much higher quality mouse if you were to spend more cash, but for the price I think this is a great product. And certainly, the scrolling light show will grab attention and brighten up your desk.
