Anyone who remotely knows me, knows of my makeup addiction.
Blush, however, is always something I've struggled with. Anyone with dry acne prone skin can relate. Powder blush is almost impossible to apply evenly. Not to mention that I really don't like the powder blush look. It's the whole blush on top of your face look... and no matter how many times QVC or HSN says it, it does not look natural. That didn't stop me from trying multiple brands of powder blush though!
But as of 2 weeks ago, that ends. I vow to never touch a powder blush, ever again. No matter how gorgeous a model on various demonstrations looks!
This new vow is all due to Tarte's Cheekstain
WHAT IS IT
Tarte's website describes it as:
This water-based push up gel stick is perfect for all skin types. No skill required - just dab it on and go. Wear it over or under foundation, with or without powder blush - it lasts all day. Theres no oil, so it wont clog your pores. Still not convinced? Weve been awarded best blush in InStyle, Cosmo & Self.
I had heard about this product for a long time, but like many people, I've had bad luck with blush stains. However, after a co-worker told me she bought every shade, and reading rave reviews, I figured why not.
Tarte Cheekstain can be purchased through QVC (www.qvc.com) or Sephora (www.sephora.com).
Each cheekstain holds 1 OZ of product for $28.
The Shades
Tarte Cheekstain come in a wide variety of shades to match every skintone.
The following shades are available at QVC & Sephora:
Blushing Bride: Deep dusty plum rose
Bronze Goddess: Beach bronze with shimmer
Sunkissed: Sheer Bronze
Cloud 9: Sheer pink with lilac and shimmer
Doll Face: Sheer Candy Pink
Flush: Sheer berry red
Tickled Peach: Sheer Peach red
Tipsy: Sheer peach with shimmer
THOUGHTs on shades:
Blushing bride & Tickled Peach are said to be a universal shades that will look great on anyone, while flush is said to work best with cool skin tones.
I myself have tried Dollface, and Flush.
Dollface should be reserved for those (like myself) with beyond pale skin. Anyone with a skintone that isn't very fair will probably have trouble getting this one to show up.
Although I did like dollface, it was much stickier that the other shades for some reason. Flush was a little too magenta on my skintone. This one is a gorgeous shade that would look amazing on anyone with a light-medium skintone.
I however, did not purchase any of the shades from the above list. I instead opted for a shade that is exclusive to Sephora and is currently only avalable in a set entitled Lovin' The Fast Stain . This set includes the Cheekstain True Love and a matching lip duo for $30.
True Love is a watermellon red, that goes on very sheer and is a healthy pink on my cheeks. It is the exact shade my cheeks turn when they are naturally flushed.
If you're having trouble picking a shade, Sephora also has a trio available for $30 that includes 3 mini shades (weighing .25 oz each)
Ingredients:
Water, Propylene, Glycerine, Pentadoxyrl, PVP, Laureth 23, Propylparaben, Fragrance, Sodium Stearate.
May Contain: D&C, Mica, Iron Oxides.
Application Process
To apply, I simply twist off the lid, and rub my fingers to get a little blush and then pat the cheekstain in an upward motion on the apples of my cheeks until it is well blended.
You can use the product directly on your cheeks, but it's pretty wide, so I prefer to use my fingers instead.
I set it with powder and am good to go! These literally stay on ALL day. It looks as fresh at 5 PM as it did when I put it on in the early hours of the morning.
As a warning, make sure you take off the protective cap prior to using. It's clear, and a lot of people don't realize it's there.
Overall Thoughts
This is the best blush on the market in my opinion. It gives a glow that not only is easy to achieve, but looks natural. It looks like it comes from within, and not as though it's sitting on top of your cheeks, like many powder blushes do.
These smell absolutely divine as well. My True Love smells like watermellon, Flush smells like Raspberries, Tickled Peach like peaches, etc...
As far as cost goes, yes I know, $28 seems expensive. It's not though. We're talking about a blush with 1 OZ of product! That outweights any other blush on the market by an unreal amount. This stuff will literally last you forever.
You can also find these on ebay for about half price as well. I got my True Love stain for about $22 including shipping via ebay.
Happy shopping! :)
