| modernmarvel's Full Review: Tarzan's Treehouse - Disneyland |
My kids begged to be taken on Tarzan's treehouse on our last visit to Disneyland and it was hard to say "no" because there was no line and it was a quickie attraction. I am glad we went on it because I got a great thigh workout but the attraction itself was rather tired and disappointing.
WHAT IT IS
This is a walk through attraction. There are no moving parts (except for you). The idea is that you are climbing though Tarzan's tree house. I should mention that this attraction is not for anyone with a fear of heights. You do climb quite high and even walk over a wobbly bridge. There are railings to protect visitors but I wouldn't send my kids up alone. A determined child could climb and hoist themselves up, on, or over the railing.
The other thing worth mentioning is that you do get a bit of exercise climbing all the stairs. This is on top of all the walking you do in the park. I have a desk job but do get some exercise with the kids. I still felt a pretty good thigh burn by the time I got to the top. The best part of this attraction is that you are pretty high up for the whole walk and you can get some good views of the park. In the immediate area, you can look down on the jungle cruise and the line for the Indianna Jones adventure. Bring your camera for some photos with a nice backdrop.
The beginning of the attraction is pretty much a straight two story climb up to the first scene of the tree house. This scene looks like a destroyed treetop living room. A book that appears to be Jane's diary says that Tarzan was taken as an infant and raised by apes. You walk along in the treetops and come to another scene that looks like another living room. Again, there is a book that furthers the story. All in all, there are about five scenes each telling the Tarzan story in order. The scenes don't really move or do much. There is some detail, but nothing that makes you want to linger. The scenes are generally all about two stories up in the "tree" which is a large, pretty good, fake. After viewing the scenes, you walk down steps into a small area where there are a few hands on things to do. The most interesting was banging on pots and pans to make "music." The lines for these interactive things were long and the hands on pieces were not really worth the wait so we didn't stick around too long.
My five year old and eight year old liked the attraction, particularly the views and the rope bridge. However, they didn't want to see it again once we had gone through. I didn't bring the baby because I didn't want to carry the extra 18 pounds up and down the stairs.
WAITING
I have never seen a wait for this attraction and there isn't even a place to form a queue.
RECOMMENDATION
I can't really recommend this attraction unless you want to work on your thighs or are a Tarzan fanatic. In my opinion, if they put a cast member up there in a tarzan costume, it would be a great improvement and I might consider making the climb again. Otherwise, I plan to skip this one if we return to Disneyland again.
