| yakkowarner's Full Review: Tarzan's Treehouse - Disneyland |
This is a self-guided tour through Tarzans tree house. You have little stops along the way that tell the Tarzan story. It really is not that interesting and should be treated as an escape from the crowds.
You first walk up a series of stairways until you are approximately 4 stories high. From there you begin your descent as well as the story of Tarzan. The first stop has a large cat and near that exhibit will be a cradle with baby Tarzan crying and yelling. Kind of weird if you ask me. The next stop is dedicated to the Gorilla that took care of Tarzan. The third stop is dedicated to the gal in the story and her drawings. The drawing room is probably the most interesting because there is a computer projector displaying drawings of Tarzan as if they were being drawn in front of you. And finally the bottom is the last stop. If your lucky you may have the female character hang out here for autographs and pictures.
There are no real special effects but they have a couple of interactive things on your self-guided tour. For example if you lean in towards the jaguar you trigger a growl. There is also an annoying bell near the beginning that you can ring. When you get to the bottom you have a couple of other small things you can do like play with a cheap image projector, listen to the original tree house music, play the cooking pot drums, or pull down on the rope to hear different sounds. Nothing special but Im sure most kids will find it amusing.
The queue line.
No Queue line, you immediate start climbing up stairs. And obviously no fast pass.
Height limit.
No height limit. But your child should be able to walk up and down stairs easily. Being afraid of heights is also a limiting factor.
The view
The view is not all that great. You get to see much of the western part of the park from a nice vantage point, so if you have never done that then it is a small treat. But for the most part you just see trees, tops of buildings, and air conditioners. You cannot see into the jungle cruise or Indiana Jones, too much vegetation on that side.
The condition of the ride.
If you read my review on Tom Sawyers Island you will see my disgust in the maintenance department of Disneyland. Although I do not feel this has the same safety issue, I do see significant wear and tear on this attraction that has not been addressed for several years. Several of the electrical conduits that are concealed by rope are currently visible as is the metal in the suspension bridge itself. Rope is also exposed on other parts of the attraction. Obviously Eisner is concerned with budget cuts but these are simple fixes. I personally would be ashamed if I was in their shoes.
Hidden Mickeys I visually confirmed.
In the drawing room, the drape holders are in the Mickey shape.
Trivia and secrets.
This was originally called The Swiss Family Robinson Tree house. That attraction traveled in the opposite way of the current attraction.
The record player on the bottom is playing the original tree house music, the Swiss Family Robinson Tree House.
The teapot and teacup at the bottom level is a tribute to chip and Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the beast.
The original ride opened in 1962 and then reopened in its current state in 1999.
Location.
This is located in Disneyland, Anaheim. It is located between Pirates and the Indiana Jones entrance.
Summary
This is a simple self-guided tour and is themed to match the Tarzan movie. Although there is a couple of interactive things, it really isnt all the impressive. I only recommend it if you want to get away from the crowds for a few minutes and dont mind a few stairs.
