Pros: Very High Fidelity in the Expression pickup. Wonderful tonal sensitivity without feedback or overdrive distortion.
I stopped by Guitar Center last week in Brea and played on a 414CE. I own a 414 that is magical. My practice is to stop in and play guitars for months on end, comparing them to other guitars in the store. When an exceptional sounding guitar comes in I either buy it or call one of my friends. Two of my freinds have purchase high end acoustics in that manner. I couldn't get this CE out of my head all weekend. On Monday I stopped in on the way home from work (sure that it wouldn't be there) and then played it for three hours. I plugged it into a Crate acoustic guitar amp like I have at the house (Gunnison). Guitar Center is a hellacious place to try and listen to nuance. However, I got lost in the dreamy tone. The sustaining notes on a 414 turn colors with slight variations in finger pressure. After consulting with the wife and a couple of friends via cellphone, I went ahead and picked it up. The new "Expression" pickup system in this guitar is absolutely incredible. I had installed a fishman under saddle pickup in my 1st 414 and immediately took it. The added pickup really made the tone suck. So when I found the 414CE with the new Taylor pickup, I was curious. Normally I record my 414 with a Blueberry Microphone through a Eureka preamp, and it sounds incredible. However, I was unable to obtain decent acoustic tone in my live band jams (Yorbalindasocialclub.com) which I host every other Friday night with some old budds. This new guitar, 414CE, is going to stand that situation on its head. Now I can pull out my old CSNY tones and not be restricted to filtering my music through my strat alone.
