PROBLEM

Our rotary dial scale was on its last legs; and I was tired of weighing 6 or 7 pounds more or less every time I stepped on it.  I decided that I didn’t want another rotary dial scale; so I started my research for a digital scale.

SOLUTION

After quite a bit of looking on line and reading user reviews, I decided on the Taylor Precision Products 7519 Ultra Thick Glass Scale With LCD Blue Backlit Readout.  Taylor has been making quality scales since 1851.

Whenever I find an item that has a choice of a heavier weight capacity, such as a stool or chair, I always choose a heavier weight than it hopefully will ever need to handle.  I feel that you will get a sturdier and longer-lasting item this way.  The Taylor 7519 will handle weights up to 440 pounds.

The scale is 13” square and is sleek and contemporary with its glass and silvertone metal construction.  The glass is an extra thick 10mm safety glass; and the 1.4” numbers stand out quite well in the 1.5” AccuGlo blue backlit LCD display.  The recorded weight, which is in .2 pound increments, remains visible for a couple of seconds after you step off the scale.   

The scale takes 4 AAA batteries, which are included, and has an impressive 5-year Warranty.

I was skeptical at first because I had visions of having to replace the batteries every couple of months; however, we have had the scale for about nine months now; and the scale works as well today as it did when I first purchased it.  The scale is extremely accurate; and the weight remains spot-on if you step on the scale repeatedly.  When the batteries do need replacing, an indicator will appear in the display area.  The unit has instant on, auto zero and auto off features.

The only criticism, slight though it may be, is that the glass is very cold on bare feet!

***Please note:  The Taylor website shows the maximum weight capacity of this scale as 400 pounds and the size as 14.5” x 14”, so it’s possible that the 7519 model has changed since I purchased it.
