Pros: Nice looking, nice feeling for a non-forged club
Cons: A bit forgiving and a bit workable. You need that?
The Bottom Line: You need skill and patience to hit them like a pro. maybe thats why so many pro's use them!

| lirubis's Full Review: Taylor Made r7 TP Irons |
After my extraordinary encounter with the R7 irons a few weeks ago, my sight were on TM irons for the first time in my golfing life. My wrist has healed and very little golf has been played in this household until the recovery was full.
I had the great chance to try the R7 irons, my Mizunos (MP60-MX23 combo) head to head, but to add a bit of spice to the mix, I also included the R7 TP irons. Talk about some serious golf gear, huh?
My latest review covered the fabulous R7 irons and I still find them to be absolutely great clubs, lacking only a bit of feel and workability compared to the Mizunos. I am sure that the R7 fit a wider range of players, being more forgiving and more fun to play. However, when you have been successful with smaller, more workable clubs, you cant help but miss the feeling brawnier, more solid heads when attacking the ball. The R7 TP's can really fill this void.
The R7 Tp's are PGA tour material. A bunch of tour pros love this clubs, and this accounts for some serious following in the amateur ranks as well. I did had a chance to test the old RAC Tp's a while back, but I did not like the feel nor the ball trajectory, and I definitely needed more forgiveness than those clubs were willing to give me.
LOOKS AND FEEL
The new R7 Tp's are quite nice looking, like a slightly reduced version of the normal R7's but with noticeably less offset and thinner toplines. My test set was fitted with Rifle F 6.0 shafts, and GP New decade grips...very nice. They look a lot more like Cb's than anything, the same color pattern (black and yellow) from the R7 family. It is a club that sits easy and sets up like a serious golf club, the shorter blade, thin toplines and reduced offset warning you: better hit it right or pay later.
The PW and 9 iron are just wonderful scoring clubs. Nice feel for a non-forged head, BTW. The feel difference VS my MP60's is noticeable, but by any means a letdown. The ball shoots up in a mid-high trajectory that seems a bit odd for a TP, I really expected a bit lower shots. I had a wonderful time shooting at the green with them, though, very precise, accurate clubs. The 8 and 7 irons are just as good from just about any lie, really like the way they handle the rough. But from a golfing standpoint, I was able to get much better results with their NON-TP big brothers.
Now, the mid-long irons, I do not want to go there. Too penal, too hard to draw, painful on thin shots...we just could not work out a deal. I had to play a lot of long approach shots, and I never really got to tame the stiff shafts and the very limited forgiveness of the TP's.
CLOSING ARGUMENTS
Amazing clubs for skilled ball strikers indeed. A bit lacking in the feel department, and kinda troublesome to work from right to left, but definitely not forgiving as their big brothers. I like the feel of the Mizunos more, maybe the shaft selection on my test set was not adequate. I cant argue with the loys of pros playing this sticks, but for me they simply do not provide the help I need.
Im moving towards the normal R7's, though!
