lirubis's Full Review: Taylormade Men's Burner 460 Ti Driver
"Oh my gosh.."
The first words I let out of my mouth after driving my first ball with this wonder.
I have written A LOT of golf stuff on Epinions, but this is actually the first time I virtually came running at my computer to write a review about something. In most cases I always advice about believing all the hype about a golf club, specially drivers, but this time, it is very different.
If you read about the TM Burner at most online golf forums, you will most likely read a predominantly great set of comments about this unusually long and easy to hit driver. Some bordering into fanaticism. And to think that is was exactly THIS hype that had kept me away from testing it.
It was last weekend when I finally got to practice golf again, after a voluntary recess from golf (one month to completely heal a sore hand), and I usually take a lonely spot right at the end of the practice range. I had already finished practicing, and concentrating in my 5 wood, when a young guy came walking all the way towards me. We had played in the same group a few months before in a scramble tournament, and he recognized me from far away. He was carrying a bag full of new clubs (R7's and Burner Driver and woods)... and at point blank he just asked me to please look at his new stuff.
I play old Rescue TM's and love them, and the R7 irons are REALLY nice and long stick, but the Burners I've never tried before. Looking at his spanking new driver, I asked if I could try it. "Please do, I would love to see what you can do with it".
SPECS and FEEL
This is a totally stock Burner, 9.5 deb S flex with a VERY light 50 gram shaft. It really feels lighter and longer, which is a good thing because you can feel the head's position every single millisecond of the swing. The shaft is surprisingly easy to load and release, but the best thing is just how super fast you can accelerate this clubhead!
The 460 cc. head is without question at the top of the forgiveness scale for Taylor Made: You can get away with a lot. It is really hard to get in troubole using the Burner, like nothing else I've played before..and I've played A LOT of heads!
Distance? By the truckloads. I found extra 5-10 yards on 4 of my favorite holes at my home course, and that was because I could reach downhill slopes I usually cant get to. So this is long and forgiving...what else could you ask for?
POWER FEEL
Ok, here is THE issue, the thing that makes me LOVE the Burner. The sound and feel of POWER when you hit the ball is simply jaw-dropping. The Titleist 983K felt powerful...but this one feels beyond that! All this put together and you get a major confidence boost, you feel you can swing easy and get superb results right from the start of the backswing!
BOTTOM LINE:
If you need forgiveness, power and distance, stop looking and try this right now. About $100 cheaper than the Superquad, this IS a real bargain. Forget about moveable weight...forget about funny-shaped cubes, forget about exotic composite fusions: THis is much better!
Just for accuracy's sake: I MUST point out that I liked the R flex 10.5 version of this same driver better, because it allowed me for a longer carry and more control on my precision shots. Pace it and you will be blasting serious yardage, I REALLY mean it.
