| ldrewc's Full Review: Technics SA-DX1040 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I purchased my Technics SA-DX1040 with Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 about 1 year ago. I have been very happy with this unit since. It has tons on inputs and outputs for nearly anything audio/video related. It has 3 digital optical inputs. The rated power is rated at 100watts X 5 @ 6 OHMs from 20hz to 20khz. This is important. Many receivers power ratings are taken at 1khz only. That means the power will be lower were it is most needed, the bass zone. This model is capable of driving speakers in the low 4ohm region. This pulls more power from the amp. It also makes it run a little warmer, and will destroy units not made for 4ohm use. This is important to me because I now own a pair old Magnepan SMG's which are 4ohm. If you don't know what Magnepan's are I suggest you look into them. There is tons of info on the web, just run a search. These speakers are well known for there ability to show musical detail. Of course they will show any flaws in electronic equipment also. I have heard no such flaws from this receiver. The speaker configuration for 5.1 is a bit tricky, but not to hard to get the hang of. The front panel has tons of open space, they should have made use of it with more buttons to make set-up and operation easier. Like I said,it is still easy to get used to.
