Pros: great decoding, good reception, sound comes out great
Cons: Pretty much none, but it's a Technics
The Bottom Line: It's definetly a first-timer's receiver, or a good second one. Use it, get used to it until you want to upgrade to the big stuff, like Bose or Yamaha.

| temple8856's Full Review: Technics SA-DX1050 5.1 Channels Receiver |
This is absolutely the best time to go digital, prices are low, you could get a great deal, and this is one of the best choices on the market. With its superior performance and affordable price, Santa won't have to go broke getting you what you must have for full television enjoyment. As an owner of a variety of DVD players (6) and several home theater systems (3), as well as checking out and doing research on over 20 others, I have come to the conclusion that this is absolutely the best piece of equipment out there for a person with a mid-sized wallet.
I was able to narrow my top picks to either a Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, or the Technics, but ended up deciding on the Technics SA-DX1050 based on its overall sound and reasonable price.
The receiver decodes DTS and Dolby pro logic used on old DVDs. The greatest thing about it is that you could turn the thing on real loud, I'm talking punch it to 100 Watts/channel and not vaporize your speakers. Although I still like my Bose theater system, which yields the most power on the market, this is a good choice for the average person, who just wants good quality for a good price. It also includes the coolest sound effects, which can usually be found an all other receivers: live, theater, hall, club, and simulated surround.
The thing that I really liked about it was that it had the ability to handle movies such as Armageddon, the Matrix, and several other hip-hop based movies, which are packed with sounds and heavy bass. I think anyone wants a remote with their new piece of equipment and this one has just the remote for it. It has functions that can essentially work with your TV, VCR, CD Player, etc.
The receiver has two optical input and one coaxial input, not used very frequently. Although the sound coming from the coaxial input is still great, I'm not too down with that. i prefer the optical stuff, one for the CD changer, the other for the DVD.
I highly recommend this receiver for anyone looking for a medium power, Dolby Digital/DTS receiver that sounds great for a great price. Great Christmas Present too, especially for us guys.
