Pros: it is travel worthy and rappers like it!
Cons: its a pain to work with long mixes with them.
The Bottom Line: I don't recomend this turntable because the MKII's are time tested and d.j. approved.

| jkeboy's Full Review: Technics SL-1200M3D Turntable |
Ok so you want turntables fair enough lets get started. I don't feel the need to tell you that it has a pitch of + or - 8% and that technics have been around for a long time. Whatever I own the sl-1200 MK3D's which is the painted black version of the silver M3D's which is suppose to have been re-engineered for todays working d.j.
Ok to start Technics have not always made bad @ss turntable's and in-fact the original sl-1200's where not made for mixing beats they were made to play records for radio d.j.'s which we all know most of them suck for one and now use CD's (although I think they should use Mini Disks). Much like the Potato Chip the sl-1200's was a mistake that everyone just happened to like especialy d.j.'s because there wow and flutter was extreamly low.
However (dun dun dun) the M3D edition has a higher wow and flutter rate than the original MKII and as such is advertised as a Beat Matching Pitbull when in reality it's a lapdog that deserves a warm place next to the fireplace in your grannies house. And if you buy these turntable to Mix-beats I assure you they will be in the fireplace in no time at all. Do they work "yes" the smoothness of the breaking speed is the same and the start up speed is the same as the MKII. But the stability of the platter when it is at speed is not consistant. And you can see it on the red dots on the side of the platter. You can beat match with these but long mixes are very tricky.
The MKII has a W&F of .3 the M3D has a W&F of .7 and it makes all the difference.
I believe Technics knows this because I got that information from them and I have read other reviews that support this finding.
I think that the M3D has been replaced with the sl-1200 MK5 and for good reason.
I don't know if the MK5 has the same defect as the M3D. But read your reviews carefully before you buy it.
I wish I had. The sl-1200 MKII's are a tried and true D.J. turntable and the design has lasted over three decades why Technics decided to f*ck with it I have no idea. They had one turntable for over twenty years and recently with in the last three years have designed four (M3D, MK5, the grand master, and that SL-DZ1200 the C.D. player that goes for 1200 Bucks a piece...good luck buying C.D.'s to play in the damb thing after forking over 2400 dallors for two.)
Over all I have had mine two years and they have seen three different contries and been left on many a night. Still work fine and after awile you get use to them and you practice harder life goes on. I don't love them I have bragging right's over the begginers who use those Gemini XL-500II which is what I started with. But in the end I feel let down by Technics knowing that it will be along time before I up-grade again and the fact that I thought I was getting the best, and it wasen't. Flat out I would not recomend them to a friend or pay the same money for them that I did if I could do it all over again.
