mql1208's Full Review: Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo 11.6 oz
Sometimes options are simply overwhelming. I'm thinking about consulting the Magic 8 Ball for an answer to the burning question, "Is one shampoo so completely different from another?" I know, I know, no one wants to read a list of ingredients when they're reading a review, but when you compare shampoos, you'll often find the same ingredients in a $3.00 shampoo versus, well let's say, this $20.00 shampoo. (ingredients included at the end of the review) So, why do I feel compelled to spend so much?
I still don't have the answer to the burning question, and Ted Gibson, celebrity hair stylist with a salon in New York and a gig on TLC's What Not To Wear, didn't do much to convince me one way or the other. Ted's hook is marketing luxury products to meet individual needs that combine advanced technology and the highest quality ingredients. I chose Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo with the expectation of preserving the color of my new, courtesy of modern chemistry, red hair. It is my understanding that maintaining chemically produced red hair is challenging, and I wanted to make sure I invested in products that would help prolong the color in between treatments. $20.00 seemed like a middle of the road financial commitment, I read one positive review, I like Ted's hair makeovers on What Not To Wear, and I wanted to avoid color depositing shampoos. I figured I'd take a chance with Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo, formulated with UV protection and ingredients to safely cleanse hair and remove the junk (product and minerals) that promotes rapid fading.
Basic shampoo packaging in a durable plastic bottle, with a pop top slotted dispenser, and dimensions that work in your hand, and in most bathroom storage spaces. I have a Pottery Barn wall mounted cabinet which I don't consider extra spacious and Ted's shampoo fits quite well. The shampoo is an opaque pale yellow shade and there's really nothing surprising about the creamy, not too runny, not too thick, just right texture. The fragrance defies description other than to say it's pleasant, and soft enough that I'd be surprised if it offended anyone. It's not exactly a fragrance junkie's dream either.
I have no complaints about dispensing this shampoo, working it in, or rinsing it out. I was impressed that not much product is required to work up a luxurious, slippery lather; a generous nickel sized portion is more than enough for my mass of hair. It also rinsed clean, without a stripped feeling, even with my hard water source. Although my hair isn't prone to tangles, I'll go out on a limb and suggest that tangling won't be an issue for any user. My hair didn't feel soooo moisturized I'm willing to skip using conditioner too, but it definitely didn't feel dehydrated and I'm almost tempted to skip it. Of course, I used Ted Gibson Clarity Color Conditioner to boost the potential benefit of the coordinating shampoo.
The results? Clean, soft, shiny, manageable hair that responds to whatever the styling method of the day is: air dry, blow dry, curling iron, flat iron. Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo met or exceeded my expectations except for one requisite quality --- color preservation. I'm just not sure. I'm only 2 weeks, 3 days into my new red hair, and although I've used Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo with my daily hair washing, my red has perceptibly faded. I don't notice the fade daily, but a few days here, a few days more, there's no ambiguity, my red is fading to my natural blonde. So, where can I assign blame? My stylist, the formula, daily washings, Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo, or the inevitable nature of being a phony redhead? Therein lies my problem.
Ted Gibson Clarity Color Shampoo is a better than average shampoo, but it hasn't convincingly delivered on the "color preservation" aspect. I can't recommend for dyed redheads like me. I'm going to have to give a below average rating based solely on my experience. On the other hand, if you're a chemically enhanced blonde or brunette, you might have better luck! At the very least, this is a good moisturizing shampoo, an essential defense for chemically treated hair.
Preserving color treatments can be quite confusing, so Ted Gibson would like to give you some clarity. Clarity Color shampoo features the signature co...More at Beautysak
