Bad Smell Worth It

For years, we had a memory foam topper on our old way-too-firm mattress, and that helped, but the topper wasn't thick enough so I added a second topper. Even that couldn't compare with the real thing--a full memory foam mattress.
We tried out all sorts of mattresses in the store, back and forth to different ones to compare their features. The Tempur-Pedic was the only one where my husband's movements didn't create a wave--and we were trying all the high-end mattresses. We weren't wild about the price, but we knew we could return it if we didn't like it. I liked the way I sunk in where I should sink in (hips, shoulders) and was supported where I needed to be supported. This was clearly far superior to what we had been sleeping on so we decided to go for it.
I didn't realize what a bad night's sleep I had been getting on our old mattress until I started sleeping on this one. I am not stiff in the morning, I feel more rested, and I have more energy. Even when I don't get all the sleep I need--and which would have left me feeling terrible before--I feel a difference. However long I sleep, I sleep more deeply and more soundly.
I hate the smell, however. It smells musty or like plastic chemicals to me. Each morning, I pull down the sheets and air it for the day. I hope for no visitors because the smell is unpleasant. It is starting to dissipate but I think it's longer than what I've read others have experienced. I'm hopeful, however, because the toppers had the same smell and eventually it went away. I imagine that this will take longer because it's a bigger block of foam. In the meantime, I'm rested and energetic, so I've decided that the temporary smell is a cost I'm willing to pay.
For the total price, we got the pillows (which I discovered I don't like), heavy duty frame, and mattress cover.
