Pros: Looks nice. Not too hot. Not too heavy. Soft feel. No bad odor.
Cons: Feels mushy! Not enough back support. Feels like quicksand when sitting upright. Overpriced.
Model- Queen size tempur-pedic signature, firm, wood boxspring.
Let me start out by saying I am extremely distressed that my husband chose to pay over $3000.00 for this mattress purchase at MattressKing.
We went shopping for a new bed because the old one is 10 years old, and we can feel the springs through the fabric. It was time.
The salesman had us initially lay on a mattress to determine if we wanted firm or soft, but I could have already told him I like a firm mattress. I felt that the salesman hovered over me the whole time I layed on mattresses to test them. When I went toward the cheaper mattresses he followed me , telling me I "wouldn't be happy on one of them". To be fair, he did offer me half price floor models, which I might have been very happy with, but my husband refused.
I even walked out of the store. My husband and I went and discussed it. I agreed that the $3000.00 tempur-pedic signature (supposedly firm) mattress felt the most comfortable, from laying on it for about 3 minutes while the salesperson hovered over me. I tried to get my husband to get a refund, during the week before the mattress was delivered but he refused.
We had the mattress delivered. If you enjoy sitting up in bed , for instance watching t.v., reading, or writing in a journal before bed, think again. You might enjoy it if you like the feeling of sitting upright in quicksand with very little back support. Even my very stubborn husband admitted it wasn't real comfortable to sit upright in. That is very disappointing to me as I generally sit for about an hour before bed doing the aforementioned activities.
We have had the bed for about 2 weeks now and I have not slept a full night in it. Twice I slept for about half the night. Every other time I've ended up in our extra bedroom (on the nice $800.00 firm mattress I bought for my son who is away at college).
They claim you don't feel the other person moving but I do. However, everything else aside my one and biggest complaint is simple - It doesn't feel firm to me, it doesn't feel like it's supporting the small of my back! It feels like I am sinking into quicksand. I am uncomfortable even sitting on the bed to put my pants on in the morning. My butt sinks into a hole and I'm better off just doing it standing up.
I realize that this is different than a regular spring mattress. In a way it's like going from a regular mattress to an old time waterbed. It's an adjustment. But it's an adjustment I never wanted , especially for $3000.00! One other thing you will probably Not sleep on your pillow the same way as on a regular mattress. I've found that adjusting the pillow lower to go under my shoulders a bit helps sometimes to feel like my body is more level, instead of my back sinking into a pit.
To try and find something nice to say I will say it Does look nice! It doesn't really make me feel too hot, which I was very concerned about, from reading other reviews . Maybe they fixed this in the newer models. Also I don't find it heavy to move at all, for instance while changing the sheets, which is a complaint I read previous.
One last thought, as someone mentioned in a previous review, tempur-pedic has a very well oiled ad campaign on t.v. I would recommend sleeping on it for a few nights before purchase, or thinking real hard about whether you will really be comfortable on this piece of sophisticated foam that does not provide support the way a spring mattress does. I would exchange it in a heartbeat for a firm spring mattress but my husband is refusing.
Update 9-5-11: I wanted to report that I managed to get my husband to go back with me to MattressKing and try to get an exchange on the mattress. The salesperson who sold us the tempur-pedic, and a manager were there when we walked in.
They were Very cooperative and delivered us a simmons beautyrest titiana firm king size within 2 days! The manager broke the rules in the fine print to make us happy, as far as having to sleep on mattress for 30 days , and only like size exchange. I'm sure they want to make a customer, especially one who spent so much, happy.
I am Very, very happy. It did cost Another $400 for restocking fees, mattress cover, and frame, but I pretty much expected that. I haven't slept on it yet but Know I will like it much better! I've been sleeping on my son's $800.00 firm serta mattress for these last 3 weeks. This one is just a much more expensive version, with some nice soft material on the pillow top. However the basic feel and firm support is there.
Update February 18-2012 : I sleep on my son's serta every night. He lives in another state , but is coming home soon. I don't know what I'm going to do. I would love to keep the serta. It's what I've grown used to. I think I just do not care for the new mattresses that have FOAM. The whole experience has been a huge nightmare. And while I Am grateful that MattressKing gave us an exchange, I will still never go back there.
I finally turned the Beatyrest Sideways, I turned the whole bed, boxsprings and all sideways. This is because I can Feel where the boxsprings come together and also the sides of the Beautyrest are more firm. So the firm bump of the boxsprings now supports my back better, but I've grown accustomed to sleeping in another room on the serta which feels much much better, firm , and normal to me, than 2 overpriced beds that don't feel supportive or right to me at all. The beatyrest is difficult to get comfortable to sleep on. However I will give it this much - it IS better to sit on to watch t.v. or read, which was close to impossible with the tempurpedic. I still prefer the cheaper serta for sleeping and sitting.
