Pros: Very comfortable, relieved back and neck pain in the first 3 nights of sleep.
Cons: Expensive and the design has serious caveats.
The Bottom Line: If you got the cash its luxurious and comfortable; otherwise stick with the Deluxe model or competing brand.

| 1GQ's Full Review: Tempur-Pedic Swedish Mattress |
Special Notes:
This is a review of the Tempur-Pedic Celebrity Swedish Mattress; the flagship model with the pillow-top and cashmere blend cover. Please do not confuse with the Standard Swedish Mattress or the Deluxe Swedish Mattress.
My 30 day experience:
The day the mattress arrived and was installed the first thing I noticed is a strong chemical like smell. Two hours later my whole bedroom wreaked of the same odor. I quickly called Tempur-Pedic which claimed its not toxic and would go away in 3-5 days. I tried to sleep on it that night but the smell made me sick so I retired to a guest room. Three nights later I finally slept on it; the smell was at a bearable level. I found I did not toss and turn that night but certainly was not near the best night sleep I've had recently at a luxury hotel.
Every night for the next week I'd walk on the bed to 'work' the foam and help expunge the odor trapped in the foam as recommended by Tempur-Pedic. Twenty days in and the bed still has a mild odor but I'm used too it already and can easily sleep on it. The bed is noticeably softer in some areas than others which is annoying but Tempur-Pedic says to continue to work the firmer areas more to even it out.
I am now thirty days in with this mattress and overall I feel it is quite comfortable. Only weighing in at 180lbs I mildly notice the sinking or conforming of the mattress to my body which gives a rather comfortable floating feel. I don't over heat while sleeping on the mattress either, whether on the cashmere cover itself or on bed sheets over the cashmere cover.
Why I bought the mattress:
I bought the mattress not only because my old one was damaged but to relieve back and neck pain. I also was anticipating gaining more quality hours of sleep as many reviews on the internet state they have experienced. The move to buy the Celebrity model over the original planned Deluxe was purely an impulsive move; a desire to have the absolute in luxury afterall I figure this bed should last me atleast 10 years.
In the area of relieving back and neck pain it certainly does work; I first noticed the effects about 3 nights of sleep. In the area of enhancing my sleep quality it has marginally done so beginning about the 20th night of sleep. I measure quality of sleep as the amount of deep sleep hours; before I bought this mattress I was averaging 5 hours and now I'm averaging 5.5 hours. Well a 1/2 hour gain may be more than marginal but I was hoping for atleast 2 hours.
Pay special attention too:
The most serious issue which by the way I am still trying to find an amicable resolution with Tempur-Pedic is the Celebrity's cover is made of a luxurious cashmere terry cloth blend which can not be removed despite their advertised literature. This means it can't be cleaned. Recently, not more than a week now, Tempur-Pedic has updated their website to not mention the cover being removable for this model and their trying to pull the 'ol "where did you see that"; lucky for me I have it in print.
Why all the fuss over the cover not being removable? Despite Tempur-Pedic customer care playing it down this is actually a significant big deal because in order to obtain maximum pressure relieving effectiveness (as noted by Tempur-Pedic) your body will need to be in direct contact with the foam.
I myself am totally satisfied with the effect with the cashmere cover layer between me and the mattress or even an additional bed sheet layer. So why am I still fussing over this? As I found there are four significant issues with using a bed sheet on the Celebrity.
1. It requires a sheet with pockets deep enough to fit 20" which I am unable to find for less than $149.
2. Any bed sheet you buy will roll up by the time you wake up in the morning; this has been acknowledge by Tempur-Pedic which brings us to #3.
3. You must buy a exclusively designed bed-protector call Gotch-Covered for an additional $79 for queen size. Not a bad idea to protect your investment but this takes us to #4.
4. We've now added two layers on top of the original cashmere layer which significantly decreases the transfer of body heat and breatheability of the foam. This significantly reduces the effectiveness of the mattress.
Currently I am waiting for the regional manager to contact me about a full refund. If the option is available to me at no additional costs I may try the Deluxe model which does have a removable cover. Also on the Deluxe model you can completely remove the cover and replace it with your own bed sheets; now the Gotcha Covered protector and regular bed sheets paired make great sense and arguably the mattress should have come with the Gothcha-Covered cover instead of the cashmere one to begin with.
All the literature you've read or seen atleast up too a week ago refers only too the Standard Swedish Mattress! In this model as confirmed with my own experience and Tempur-Pedic customer care unlike the sales person and commercials would have you believe you can feel energy transfer in the bed. For instance if I'm laying on one end and my girlfriend walks on the other you feel it! I wouldn't try the 'wine' demo at home! The Celebrity's pillow top allows significantly more energy transfer than the other models; such is the price of luxury I guess.
As related to the first complaint above, the heavily touted luxurious look of the pillow top design is instantly killed the moment you cover it with a bed sheet; looks like just another mattress.
Overall Experience and Conclusion:
Over it has been a painful experience as far as personal aggrevation. Tempur-Pedic customer service is horrible at best. Yes you can easily contact them however they in my opinion employ decieving tactics to get rid of you; basically giving you a load of crap if you fail to have the facts to contest their answers.
The bed itself without any sheets as it was intended to be used is a dream to sleep on. Extremely comfortable and definately relieved my back and neck pain. Unfortunately you will probably come to the same conclusion I did; the Celebrity just can't effectively work by the time you take the necessary steps to prepare it for everyday use.
I advise avoiding this particular model. I'm soured to the Tempur-Pedic brand now otherwise I would have considered and exchange for the Deluxe model. I will certainly be fighting for a full refund on my Celebrity bed. The technology has proven itself too me, but this implementation is a royal screw up and Tempur-Pedic has shown me they have poor business ethics. By the way read the fine print on the so called 20 year warranty before you buy; it definately is not a selling point.
